The first university sailing regatta will be held in St. Petersburg

The first university sailing regatta will take place in St. Petersburg. By analogy with the oldest water competitions between the teams of Oxford and Cambridge, representatives of Moscow State University and St. Petersburg State University will compete in St. Petersburg this summer.

In 1829, on June 10, the first rowing competition on the Thames took place between teams of two clubs from the universities of Oxford and Cambridge. Only since 1856 the competition began to be held annually and becomes the most prestigious rowing competition in the world. The trajectory and rules of modern arrivals have remained unchanged, but now this event annually attracts millions of tourists to London from all over the world. In 2016, the first university sailing regatta of St. Petersburg State University took place in St. Petersburg from June 25 to June 27 on the Neva.

The event was organized by St. Petersburg University in partnership with the St. Petersburg State University Alumni Association, this year was sponsored by Petromax and Haje St. Petersburg, Project 111 and others. The competition was attended by 12 teams from St. Petersburg, Moscow, regions, as well as graduates of Alma Mater. The event included a variety of visitor activities such as being a yachtsman, as well as concerts, sailing lectures and interviews. We hope that the sailing holiday will become a traditional and annual event that will unite different generations of sailors and develop this exciting sport!
