If you want to become a language teacher, then this course will provide you with the theory and practical skills you need.

The Applied Linguistics for Language Teaching MA is a programme which explores the practical applications of applied linguistics and is aimed at postgraduate students with or without language teaching experience. It is suitable for both native speakers and non-native speakers of English who want to develop their careers in language teaching, consultancy or research.

Students who want to become English language teachers will have an optional opportunity to gain a professional teaching qualification (CELTA or CLTA) as part of the programme.

What will you study?

This course allows students to gain insights into the theory and practice of language learning and teaching. It has a strong focus on experiential learning which includes class observation, language learning and micro-teaching to encourage the linking of theory and practice.

For those students who want to become English language teachers, there is an optional opportunity to gain a professional teaching qualification (CELTA or CLTA) as part of the programme. Students may choose this option at their own additional expense, and at an institution of their choice, but the CELTA/CLTA must be studied after the end of the second semester modules.

Please note that this is an indicative list of modules and is not intended as a definitive list.
