The Master's programme builds on the Bachelor's degree that is required for admission to the programme. The programme's duration is 2 years (120 ECTS credits), and comprises degree courses (normally 60 credits) and an independent scientific master's thesis (normally 60 credits).

The Master's thesis will normally be a supervised independent, scientific work of 60 credits- however it is also possible to write a 30 credit thesis, in which case the master degree courses will be expanded to 90 credits. The degree courses normally comprises 60 credits, of which 20 credits obligatory courses and 40 credits elective courses.

Applicants must have completed a Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in biological sciences, and have minima of 60 ECTS credits biological courses, 5 credits mathematics, 5 credits statistics as well as 10 ECTS credits chemistry. The average mark must be C or better either for the entire degree or the 60 ECTS specialisation.Students who are not native speakers of English, must document knowledge of English with one of the following tests:- Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL): min. score 550.- English Language Testing Service (IELTS) test: min. score 6.0.
