The MSc by Research (Management) develops your ability to pursue original research in a critical and scholarly way. It may be taken either as a free-standing MSc or as the first part of a PhD programme.

Why an MSc by Research?

By completing the one-year MSc by Research programme, you will attain a standalone degree. However, as a first step to a PhD, the programme offers prospective research students several advantages, including:

  • the opportunity for students who might not have much previous research experience to demonstrate their aptitude in post-graduate research before applying to the PhD programme;
  • the ability to be in a good position to apply for PhD grants and scholarships whilst studying for the MSc; and
  • the chance to hone research skills prior to undertaking PhD study.
