Do you want to manage companies in the sports and event sector? This programme gives you competences that enable you to become such a manager.

The MSc in Economics and Business Administration profile in Sports and Event Management gives you competences on a high academic level within organization and marketing. The focus lies on issues that are especially relevant for companies in the sports and event sector. The profile is offered at Campus Esbjerg.

The profile concerns itself with the entertainment markets, and how they interact with the sports and event sector. Other marketing issues are strategy and competition. The organizational subjects are governance in sports companies, project management and innovation management. In addition, you get methodological skills in qualitative as well as in qualitative research. Further, you can choose between electives offered especially for this programme as well as electives from other master studies offered at Campus Esbjerg.

The profile runs in eight quarters. In the courses, you will work with projects, in groups and have lectures. The group of students in the courses is normally a size allowing interaction with the professor lecturing as well as discussions among the students. This enlarges the size of the active vocabulary which you can later use in discussing issues related to these fields as a part of your job.

The courses on the profile are taught in English. You can, however, do exams including your master thesis in Danish provided the teacher is Danish speaking.

Career opportunities
Masters of Science in Economics and Business Administration work within practically all administrative areas as for example accounting and controlling, IT, marketing and sales management, planning, HRM and organisational planning. MScs from the University of Southern Denmark are in general able to find relevant and attractive jobs after they graduate.

There is of course a relationship between the job that graduates get and the courses which they have taken on the profile they have studied. Many of the MScs are employed in specialist functions while others, especially as they gain experience, are take on jobs that include not only management but also leadership.

The programme offers courses in governance in companies in the sports and event sector, about media and music management, in project management, innovation, competitive strategy and research methodology. The combination of courses in advanced management and marketing qualifies you to manage the development of competences and continuous learning that are necessary survival skills for enterprises in an intensified competitive environment.

Through a combination of project work, group work, and lectures you will understand how to manage companies in the sports and event sector. The programme focuses on know-how skills, i.e. the ability to perform analyses and develop solutions.

The graduate programme in Sports and Event Management runs in four quarters. However, it is possible to take quarters as independent units. In the International Graduate Programme you may follow all the courses offered in the Master of Science programme in Sports and Event Management. In order to achieve 60 ECTS you must follow two courses of each 7.5 ECTS per quarter.

The examination types vary and are adjusted to the learning for the individual courses. Therefore they will be a mix of written exams and projects with or without oral examinations.

Programme Structure
Master of Science in Economics and Business Administration requires two years of full time study, each year consisting of four quarters. The profile in Sports and Event Management consists of 60 ECTS compulsory courses of 7.5 ECTS each, 30 ECTS that are electives, and a thesis work corresponding to 30 ECTS.

The 8 compulsory courses are offered in the first four quarters. The electives are typically placed in the fifth and sixth quarters. Electives can be taken at Campus Esbjerg or abroad or take form as an internship. The thesis is to be written during the seventh and eighth quarters.

Limitation in admission capacity from 1 September 2014From 1 September 2014, we are unable to guarantee applicants admission to the programme MSc in Economics and Business Administration even if the applicant meets the entry requirements. In the case that you are admitted to the programme, we cannot guarantee that there is an admission place available for the profile you have chosen. If you wish to enhance your possibility of admission, it is important that you select a 2nd and 3rd priority when you apply for admission, in addition to the profile you have selected as your 1st priority. On this page you will find the entry requirements for admission to the programme MSc in Economics and Business Administration.The admission places are allocated to applicants belonging to three different groups according to specific criteria.Intake capacity:Intake for semester start 1 September 2014: 825 admission places Intake for semester start 1 February 2015: 300 admission places Intake total for the academic year 2014-2015: 1,125 admission placesTHE THREE GROUPS ARE DEFINED BASED ON THE BASIS FOR ADMISSIONGroup 1Applicants with a BSc in Economics and Business Administration from the University of Southern Denmark are guaranteed admission to this master programme within the first year of having completed the BSc.Group 2Other applicants from Danish universities (including CBS) who have passed a BSc in Economics and Business Administration or a BSc in Economics and Business Administration from the University of Southern Denmark with a degree older than one year are qualified for admission to the master programme.Other applicants from or a are qualified for admission to the master programme.Group 3Other educational backgrounds If the university evaluates that an applicant possesses comparable academic qualifications to those acquired with a BSc in Economics and Business Administration, thereby enabling the applicant to complete the program, the applicant may be admitted. The university may require that the applicant pass supplementary courses and/or exams prior to enrolment.In order for a degree to be deemed as having similar qualifications to those of the BSc programme in Economics and Business Administration, it must be a bachelor degree from a university. The programme must include 75 ECTS courses covering the disciplines within economics and business administration.This means that the following subjects must be included with the stipulated number of ECTS: * 5 ECTS Microeconomics or Managerial Economics * 5 ECTS Accounting * 5 ECTS Corporate Finance * 5 ECTS Marketing * 5 ECTS Organizational Theory * 5 ECTS Statistics * 5 ECTS Theory of Science and/or Scientific Methodology and Methods. This demand is fulfilled if the bachelor degree is acquired at a university * 5 ECTS Methods for analysis of data (qualitative and/or quantitative. Collection of data may be a small part of this) * Additional 35 ECTS subjects within the area of business economics and business administrationApplicants with another basis for admission, for example a professional bachelors degree from Denmark or another country, may be admitted after an individual assessment. The applicants bachelor degree must cover the areas stipulated above and be of the same academic depth.In case the above requirements are not fulfilled, the applicant must pass additional tests and/or courses prior to enrolment in order for the applicant to obtain qualifications similar to those of the admission requirements. The board of the University of Southern Denmark decides from year to year which study programmes will benefit from the scholarships and the University will recommend the most qualified applicants in these programmes for a scholarship. Therefore it is not possible to apply for this scholarship. If you are a non-EU student and applying for a programme which offers this scholarship you will automatically be considered for it.

BHJ Scholarship
Only available for students applying for a master programme at our Sønderborg Campus

Six one-year scholarships are issued pr. year: three for studies within the technical field i.e. Mechatronics and Innovation & Business respectively, and three are for studies within the field of business administration i.e. Business Relationship Management.

A scholarship of DKK 40.000 may be granted if and when the requirements are met. It is paid in two instalments of DKK 20.000 per semester. The scholarship grant depends on acceptance and enrolment as a full-time student in one of the above mentioned programmes.
