How do we find solutions to the world´s growing environmental problems? Would you like a career dealing with environmental issues in national or international businesses?

We are increassingly aware of our responsibilities in the use and management of the natural environment. Knowledge is needed to find solutions to growing environmental problems, such as pollution and depleted resources. This programme will enable you develop the knowledge and skills needed to address these important issues.

Knowledge and understanding of our biological natural resources and their sustainable use is urgently needed. In this programme, you will heighten your knowledge of economics or business administration, and learn how that knowledge can be applied to environmental issues. Environmental issues are brought to the classroom via SLU´s extensive links with natural resource-based industries. These meetings aid understanding and application of skills in economics and business administration as a tool for addressing current problems.

Future

This programme is in English. It is intended for students with a Bachelor´s degree in business administration or economics who wish to extend their understanding of environmental resource issues. After completing the programme, you will possess the skills to deal with environmental issues in national and international businesses and organisations, government agencies and other public sector organisations.

As an economist with a profile in environmental and natural resources you will have ample employment opportunities in industry, the media, consultancy firms, authorities, international organisations and policy agencies. You will also be well equipped to apply to a Ph D programme.

Depending on your major (either business administration or economics), you will develop understanding and insight into local and global use and management of natural resources. You will learn to address complex problems from both an industrial and societal perspective, with an interest in understanding and promoting sustainable development.

With business administration as a major, you will study environmental management, production economics, quantitative finance, strategic management, environmental risk management and accounting as well as ethics.

As an economics major, you will develop your understanding of micro economic theory, environmental policy, econometrics, policy evaluation and sustainable development. Part of the programme is arranged jointly with Uppsala University.

Qualification Awarded

Degree of Master of Science (120 Credits) in Business and Economics with a major in Business Administration or with a major in Economics.

Equivalent to Bachelor’s degree of 180 Credits including 90 Credits in one of the following subjects: - Business Administration- Economics5 Credits in Mathematics, 5 Credits in Statistics. Knowledge equivalent to English B from upper secondary school. English Language Requirements IELTS band: 6 TOEFL paper-based test score : 575 TOEFL iBT® test: 90

Scholarships

Scholarships are available for fee-paying students admitted to Master's programmes. The scholarships are granted by both SLU and the Swedish Institute (SI). Scholarships offered by SLU cover tuition fees only (not the cost of living). The number of scholarships awarded changes from year to year. Information about scholarships at SLU, including how to apply, is sent out to all applicants applying in time.
