A two-year full-time integrated European Master programme aimed at qualifying graduates to deal with the huge challenges in contemporary tourism.

Through top-level, research-based education, graduates will gain the required competencies for working in the development and management of tourism in a sustainable manner.

The EMTM students will achive the title: European Master in Tourism Management (EMTM).

The successful student will be able to apply for high-level PhD programmes or pursue a career in practice become a member of EMTM alumni.

EMTM study starts in Esbjerg, Denmark, at University of Southern Denmark. All students meet at the end of August for introductory programme and first EMTM study term. Then they move to Ljubljana for the second term, and then to Girona for the last, third term together. Fourth term is reserved for master research, which can be carried out at any of the participating Universities.

EMTM is an integrated master program. Student build their competences in 3 consecutive steps: conceptualisation, instrumentalisation and implementation, as illustrated in Figure. Integration of all three levels of knowledge is done in Master thesis. Further, the program is integrated through the concept and practice of sustainable tourism in almost all of the courses in order to increase the ability of future tourism managers to meet the needs of the enterprise, or destination and its stakeholders today while protecting, sustaining, and enhancing human and natural resources into the future.

Students knowledge is assessed based on classical exams and project assignments.

All courses are taught in English.

First Semester

The first semester, Term 1 is carried out at the University of Southern Denmark at the Esbjerg campus (Faculty of Humanities). Students are introduced, at an advanced level, to the conceptualization and strategic communication of sustainability and competitiveness in tourism development and management. Individual courses have been selected and designed to fulfill these objective.

Second Semester

The second semester, Term 2 is carried out at the University of Ljubljana (Faculty of Economics). Students, with the knowledge acquired on sustainable tourism development and management, are involved in courses regarding the policy instruments, indicators and management tools available for governmental sustainable policy making in tourism development. Additionally, students are introduced to the research methods they will use in the completion of the Master thesis in the fourth semester.

Third Semester

The third semester, Term 3 is carried out at the University of Girona (Faculty of Tourism and Communication). After having gathered an advanced knowledge on sustainable tourism concepts and policy strategies, the third semester is devoted to fully analyze the actual and effective implementation by private businesses, public administrations and public-private partnerships and networks of processes of competitive and sustainable tourism product and destination development and management. Focus will be on contemporary issues of strategic importance like, local destination tourism planning, partnership and network management, product innovation and quality management, economic management of destinations and tourism products, urban and cultural tourism management, relational and contractual arrangements in tourism management.

Fourth Semester
The fourth semester, Term 4 is exclusively devoted to the completion of the Master thesis.

The main selection criteria for the EMTM applicants are: * Completed university Bachelor or Master degree/s (=180 ECTS credit points or more) in the field of: tourism, economics, business administration, geography or other related fields in the social sciences and humanities. * Excellence on obtaining the university degree/s (the average grades must be A or B, minimum 70%). * English language proficiency. An English proficiency certificate is not required in case of native speakers who come from countries where English is an official language. English Language Requirements IELTS band: 6.5 TOEFL paper-based test score : 575 TOEFL iBT® test: 88

There are two types of Erasmus Mundus scholarships, Category A and Category B scholarship.

It should be noted that the Category A scholarships are considered as full scholarships covering all necessary costs incurred by the student during his/her study period in Europe, Category B scholarships are considered as a financial contribution to the student´s costs while following his/her EMTM studies.

Erasmus Mundus Category A scholarship are awarded to students selected by EMTM consortia, who are nationals of a Third Country (all countries outside the EU Member States, Liechtenstein, Norway and Iceland), who have not carried out their main activity (studies, research or work) for more than 12 non-consecutive months over the last 5 years in one of the 27 EU Member States, Liechtenstein, Norway or Iceland. (Switzerland, Western Balkan and Turkey are third country students and are eligible for cat. A).

Erasmus Mundus Category B scholarship are awarded to students selected by EMTM consortia, who are nationals of one of the 27 European Member States, Liechtenstein, Norway or Iceland or any third country students who has spent at least 12 (non-consecutive) months, over the last 5 years, working, studying or doing research in one of the 27 EU Member States, Liechtenstein, Norway or Iceland. (Switzerland is a third country and can only be considered for Cat. B if the Swiss students fall under the 12-month rule).
