Students in this field are prepared to work in various functions in monetary systems, corporation finance and financial accounting. The organization of the field enables the students to gain knowledge of monetary systems, banking, insurance, corporate finance, accounting, financial markets and international finance.

Emphasis is placed on solving financial and monetary problems. Through optional courses it is possible for the students to expand their knowledge of the area of banking, bank management, bank accounting, financial analysis and plan, contractual relations in financial affairs, financial accounting of corporations and the insurance market.

The programme graduates will:

  • understand and define basic terminology used in finance theory and practice
  • be able to calculate yield from financial investments and an impact of inflation on savings and financial investments
  • be able to describe and understand basic trends in financial markets
  • be able to choose suitable bank products for savings and credits
  • be able to explain accounting methods, systems of valuation and taxation used in the Czech Republic and in the EU countries.

Course graduates will be equipped to work in various capacities in financial institutions, especially in banks, insurance companies and trusts, as stockbrokers or private financial investors, in finance and accounting departments of companies and institutions. They will hold higher managerial positions in financial divisions of banks, insurance companies or as financial and capital market analysts, controllers, etc.

The standard duration of the Financial Management programme is 4 semesters.

Typically, the first three semesters are devoted to coursework, while the last semester is a thesis-writing semester. Coursework consists of reading assignments, written assignments, in-class discussions and in-class presentations. During the last semester, students conduct research and write their Master's theses. All courses are taught in English. The language of assigned work, exams and individual consultations, as well as master thesis, is also English.

Courses are divided into two categories: compulsory and optional courses.

Compulsory courses constitute the core of the programme. All of them must be completed in the course of study. In addition, the programme offers optional courses. The number of optional courses taken must be such that the credit requirements for optional courses are fulfilled.

The programme ends with a Final state exam which the student is allowed to take having fulfilled all study requirements. The Master's thesis defence is part of the final exam.Students must earn at least 120 credits during his course of studies, consisting of credits from all compulsory courses plus credits from optional courses up to the desired number of 120 credits.

Compulsory courses: Microeconomics2, Macroeconomics2, Accounting, Finance, Management and Business Economics, Financial Markets, Financial Analysis and Plan, International Management, Human Resource Management, Corporate Managerial Systems.

International qualifications which are equivalent to International Baccalaureate or A level qualification (for Bachelor’s programme), Bachelor’s degree certificate (for Master’s Programme) - the University requires all students to provide proof of qualifications (certified copy of the diploma by the authorised university office or by a notary public official) accompanied by the final transcript of records. Diplomas and final transcripts of records whose original language is not English or Czech should be accompanied by an official English language translation, stamped and signed by a translating company or an authorised university office; English language qualifications - you are required to have a sufficient command of English language to enable you to follow the course without linguistic difficulties. To prove your proficiency in English we ask for one of the following: TOEFL – 550 for paper-based, 213 for computer-based, or 79 for Internet-based tests; Cambridge IELTS written version - 6.5, CAE - B grade, CPE - C grade; or other internationally recognized certificates. (This doesn’t apply to native speakers and holders of a prior degree taught in English). Please note that not every Faculty/Programme accepts all these test score.You may be asked to demonstrate your English proficiency in a telephone interview. Curriculum Vitae - a summary of education, relevant job experience, skills etc. Statement of purpose - document outlining the applicant's intellectual history and presenting his/her motivation in applying to the certain programme. Recommendation letter – you may also be required to provide the reference from your university teacher.
