The programme aims to provide depth and specialised knowledge of French and Francophone language, literature and culture, as well as methodological competence. Particular attention is devoted to a wide range of topics focusing on the literature, language and media culture of France within the context of the Romance countries.
The course develops competence in the following areas: French-language communication, French-language specialist and cultural interaction, the methodological analysis of literary and non-literary texts, and the description and interpretation of these texts in the context of historical patterns of knowledge and media constellations. The course will provide knowledge and develop abilities which will form the basis for work in the cultural and scientific institutions of the German-speaking countries and the Romance countries.

Course objectives

The programme qualifies the successful graduates for employments in media, publishing, theatre, cultural and academic management, international institutions, cultural education, science and participation in PhD programmes.
