GeT MA - the German-Turkish Master's Programme - is an interdisciplinary and integrated Master's programme in social sciences. GeT MA students broaden their empirical knowledge of political processes.
Academic courses are taught by highly qualified professors from different academic disciplines on various topics such as modernisation and democratisation, Europeanisation, and migration. Students deepen their empirical knowledge of political processes using Germany, Turkey, and other countries and regions of Europe as examples.
Our aim is to do research together rather than about each other.
The courses of the study programme offer a specialised perspective on current academic and political debates in these fields by using the examples of Turkey and Germany. Looking at the interplay of politics and society in German-Turkish relations as well as the European dimension of domestic and foreign politics in both countries will help students to cultivate the analytical and methodological tools used in comparative government, integration theories, and social change.
Teaching and research have a clear interdisciplinary focus. The courses in the programme cover various sub-disciplines in political science and sociology and also address cultural and economic questions. This approach manifests itself through the participation of professors from different academic disciplines and backgrounds.

Educational organisation

GeT MA - The German-Turkish Master's Programme in Social Sciences - is a unique, interdisciplinary, two-year Master's programme offering an excellent academic experience in two of Europe's vibrant capitals: Berlin, Germany and Ankara, Turkey.
A specific characteristic of GeT MA is the concept of "Joint Teaching": at least one course in semesters one to three is taught jointly by faculty from both partner universities. By coming into contact with the experienced teaching staff from both universities throughout the programme, GeT MA students become familiar with topics and research themes from German and Turkish perspectives, experience individual teaching styles and gain insights into the respective university systems. Students attend graduate courses in the social sciences at the Middle East Technical University (METU) Ankara (year one), Turkey and Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, Germany (year two).
Most GeT MA courses are taught specifically for GeT MA students. Some courses may be conducted together with our other international MA programmes. In addition, electives that are related to the topics of the GeT MA study programme and allow students to acquire a broader perspective can be chosen from the course catalogues of both universities.
