Why choose the Disaster, Crisis, and Intervention specialization?

The Disaster, Crisis and Intervention specialization provides in-depth information about the theory and strategies that need to be implemented to meet the basic needs of a community in an emergency situation. Learn how to assist victims and support their caregivers after the initial crisis has passed. Study the skills and practices specific to crisis counselling, including theories of crisis intervention and ways of working with different populations.

This specialization will prepare you to deal with behaviours that follow a disaster and offers practical methods of addressing stress, coping, and adjustment difficulties. You will also study how psychological disorders such as post-traumatic stress disorder manifest and how assistance should proceed in order not to add to the suffering of the victims. Gain experience designing a crisis plan to prepare for future emergencies. Also, address the psychology and impact of terrorism on communities.
