The Master of Information Systems is a vocationally and academically oriented program. The Master of Information Systems provides for graduates in programs other than computing to gain skills and knowledge in key areas of computing which relate to their needs and the needs of their profession or industry. It aims to produce graduates who are managers in IT departments.

Program objectives

The Master of Information Systems aims to produce graduates who are able to: .

  • demonstrate specific knowledge and skills in information technology which are relevant to their disciplines and careers

  • demonstrate understanding of a broad range of topics in information technology

  • design, manage and develop software systems in an effective manner

  • lead discussions relating to the computing aspects of their work-place

  • demonstrate skills in the analysis and determination of technological issues at management level

  • identify, analyse and solve problems in one or more areas of technology by selecting and using either quantitative or qualitative techniques appropriate to the resolution of technological problems

  • satisfy academic admission requirements for membership of relevant professional bodies

  • identify, interpret and evaluate major issues in a range of contemporary business information technology areas

  • apply acquired knowledge associated with the studies to work environments

  • articulate the principal theories, concepts and applications associated with relevant information technology area(s)

  • demonstrate ethical behaviour and act in accordance with the ethics of the profession.

To be eligible for admission to the Master of Information Systems, applicants are required to have a recognised Bachelor degree or equivalent. Applicants must meet the University's English language requirements or have completed the University's ELICOS/EAP programs.Note: Applicants without an acceptable Bachelor degree and who have completed a minimum of five years professional work experience may be eligible for entry into a Graduate Certificate in Business and upon completion and achievement of a minimum GPA of 4.0, may apply for entry into the Master of Information Systems. Accreditation

The Master of Information Systems program is accredited at professional level by the Australian Computer Society and, through the Seoul Accord, is recognised in other countries.
