The MSc in Occupational Therapy (Professional Qualification) offered at the University of Limerick is the first Graduate Entry Masters programme in Ireland. The course was developed in response to the Bacon Report recommendation that graduate entry options for this programme be explored.

This innovative programme is an opportunity for honours graduates to pursue studies leading to a professional qualification in Occupational Therapy. The two-year, full-time course is a timely and appropriate route for graduates, as it recognises their educational and work experiences to date.

Objectives

The programme recognised by the World Federation of Occupational Therapists aims to develop graduates who are able to:

* Practice competently in a range of environments.
* Assess human occupational performance, design and implement treatment plans to enhance human occupational performance.
* Practice in a client-centred manner.
* Evaluate and apply the evidence base in Occupational Therapy
* Clinically reason with reference to evidence-based practice
* Learn through continued professional and educational development.

Careers

Graduates will be licensed to practice in Ireland and eligible for registration in other parts of the world. You will be able to work in a diverse range of environments including schools, hospitals and community settings.

Semester 1

Occupational Therapy Project 1, The Anatomy and Physiology of human performance, Occupational Therapy approaches to problems in human performance, Science of Occupation, Practice Education 1

Semester 2

Practice Education 2, Occupational development through the lifespan, Occupational Therapy Project 2, Seminar in Professional Practice Issues, Person-Occupation-Environment 1.

Summer Study

Practice Education 2, Occupational Therapy Project 3 weeks- self-directed

Semester 3

Practice Education 3, Person-Occupation-Environment 2, Lifestyle redesign through occupation, Occupational Therapy Project 3.

Semester 4

Education Practice 4, Person-Occupation-Environment 3, Seminar in health/welfare systems & management for occupational therapy, Occupational Therapy Project 4

An undergraduate degree, 2.2 honours (Level 8 - National Qualifications Authority of Ireland) or higher, with preference given to applicants with related subjects such as health, psychology, sociology, anatomy or human biology. Relevant work experience in health and social care will also be considered. Candidates should have completed at least 2 visits to a range of occupational therapy areas prior to interview.Please note that official confirmation of undergraduate degree results must be available at the time of applying.Applications must include * A supporting statement of no more than two A4 pages detailing any relevant education (related modules completed as part of a degree, for example) and work experience (occupational therapy or related) * Two signed references - where possible one should be academic and the other from employment. * Qualification transcripts and certificates * English language qualification if English is not your first language * Certified English translations of your transcripts/certificates where the originals are in a language other than English. * A copy of your birth certificate (long document)ENGLISH LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTSAs all international students are required to possess sufficient language skills to attend lectures and sit examinations at the University of Limerick, students should be competent to communicate through the medium of English prior to their arrival.Students must have a minimum score of 550 (paper based) or 213 (computer based) 80 (internet based) in TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) or an IELTS (International English Language Testing System) score in the range of 6.5-7 and not less than 6.0 in any one component.
