The Undergraduate Pilot Training Program is launched by Özyegin University School of Aviation and will welcome its first cohort of prospective pilots in the 2012-2013 academic year. The program prepares to make a strong entry into the rapidly developing airline industry with its distinctive educational vision. Through its dynamic and innovative education system, the program aims not only to satisfy the prevailing need for pilots in the airline industry but also to produce the best pilots who are sought after in the industry with their devotion to aviation.
Aspiring to turn their dreams of flying and becoming pilots into reality and to turn it into their life style, our students will always be supported by Özyegin Universitys distinguished faculty with in-depth experience during their challenging yet thrilling years of study. Our graduates will have the opportunity and privilege to serve as pilots at national and international companies in the airline industry with their high level of knowledge, competences, foreign language skills as well as their high self-esteem.

Course Content

Students who successfully complete the English Language Preparatory Program are entitled to start their 4-year Undergraduate Pilot Training Program. Academic courses as well as theoretical ground training will be delivered by the Özyegin University Undergraduate Pilot Training Program, while flight training will be offered by AYJET Anatolian Stars Flight Training Organization as per the Academic Cooperation Protocol signed between Özyegin and AYJET. Our graduates will also be qualified for the Pilot License (ATPL) issued by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (SHGM).
Prospective students must submit a first class health certificate (Class-1) issued by the authorized aviation medical centers that are recognized by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (SHGM), along with a clean bill of health which states that the there are no impediments or limitations that prevent the bearer from serving as the pilot-in-command in single-pilot certified aircrafts.
Prospective pilots must satisfy the necessary conditions stipulated for Student Pilot License applications in Article 24 of the Rules and Regulations for Aircraft Pilot Licenses (SHY-1) published on the Official Gazette No: 26190 on June 6, 2006.

Academic Program

The Undergraduate Pilot Training Program curriculum has been designed in line with the rules and regulations of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and the Airline Transport Pilot License (ATP) standards of the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA). In addition to the pilot (flight) training, students will also be offered an intensive academic program which will set them apart from the competition by building a robust foundation about airlines and corporate aviation.

Career Opportunities

The Undergraduate Pilot Training Program prepare its graduates for a vast array of career opportunities at airline companies, general aviation companies, universities offering pilot training programs as well as flight training organizations through its rich curriculum offering academic courses, elective courses as well as theoretical courses and flight trainings for PPL and ATPL.

Lecturers

Semih SORAN

Assistant Professor, Head of Training, Pilot Training Program

Dr. Semih Soran obtained his Bachelors Degree in Systems Engineering from the Turkish Military Academy in 1998. He received his Masters Degree in Management and Organization from Inönü University and in International Relations from Selçuk University in 2004 and 2006, respectively. He obtained his doctoral degree in Management and Organization from Inönü University in 2011. After graduating as a pilot from the Turkish Army Aviation Academy, he served as an instructor pilot till 2011. Dr. Semih Sorans main research interests are managing stress factors that affect pilots and the effects of emotions on organizational performance.

Çaglar Üçler

Dipl. - Ing., PhD After his high school education in Istanbul Alman Lisesi in Turkey, Caglar UCLER went to Germany and graduated the Technical University of Munich (TUM) with a combined degree of Diplom Ingenieur in Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering. During his study Caglar UCLER worked as a research fellow in DASA Military Aircraft and TUM. Afterwards he joined CASE-M in Munich, where he took part in simulation projects related to Ariane Rockets. After coming back to Turkey, he has finished several CAE and engineering consulting projects in Aerospace & Defense, Automotive and Energy sectors, including but not limited to projects in FIGES, Aselsan, TAF, STM, TEI, Rolls Royce Marine, Blue Origin, Mercedes Benz Turk, Ford, Cummins Engine and UZEL. He has been the former Deputy General Manager of FIGES, where he also facilitated consulting & training in SASAD and TAYSAD member companies. During his work in FIGES he made his dissertation in Concurrent Engineering in Engineering Management at Marmara University. After FIGES he joined ARITAS Group, where he founded the German Branch and worked on the management and restructuring of the existing engineering resources in cryogenic energy industry. He recently joined the School of Aviation in Özyegin University and continues his research projects in concurrent engineering, R&D and customer relationships, reengineering and simulation technologies in CAE. Güney Güven Yapici

Assistant Professor

Dr. Yapici received his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from Texas A&M University in 2007. He finished his undergraduate studies in Mechanical Engineering at Bogazici University and moved to U.S. for pursuing graduate studies in 2002. During graduate studies, Dr. Yapici focused on the fabrication and microstructural design of advanced materials via severe plastic deformation techniques. He worked on several projects funded by NSF, AFRL, ONRL and DARPA. His research interests lie in the area of processing-microstructure-property relationships of structural and smart materials through experimental investigation and computational modeling of the material behavior at micro and nano scale. Design for manufacturing and product development methodologies are his other interest areas. Dr. Yapici also conducted studies at the Materials Science and Technology division of Los Alamos National Laboratory. Before joining academia, he held research and engineering positions in energy industry specializing in the design of actuation systems for high technology downhole tools in extreme conditions. He authored several publications in peer-reviewed journals and presented his research at numerous international symposia.

Özkan BEBEK

Assistant Professor

Dr. Bebek received his B.S. degree in mechanical engineering from the Middle East Technical University in 2001, M.S. degree in mechatronics from Sabanci University in 2003, and Ph.D. degree in systems and control engineering from Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland, OH, USA, in 2008. Before joining Ozyegin University he was a senior research associate at the Medical Robotics and Computer Integrated Surgery Lab at Case Western Reserve University, where he worked on robotic systems for beating heart surgery and small animal biopsies as well as a personal navigation system using inertial measurement units and pressure sensors.

M. Bülent AKSUM

Captain Pilot, Chief Ground Instructor

Captain Pilot M.Bülent AKSUM graduated from Turkish Military Academy in 1966. After graduating from Turkish Army Aviation Academy in 1971 as a pilot, he served as an Instructor and Control Pilot at Turkish Armed Forced between 1972 and 1987 and as a Captain Pilot at several airline organizations between 1990-2011. A. Serkan Sehlikoglu

Captain Pilot, Theoretical Ground Instructor Captain Pilot A. Serkan Sehlikoglu received his Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Engineering from Istanbul University in 1998. He completed his flight training at Airline Transport Professionals in the USA. Between 2000 and 2005, he served as flight instructor and pilot in several states of the USA with his CFI, CFII, MEI and ATP licenses. During the years from 2005 till 2009, he worked for Pegasus Airlines as a pilot. Captain Pilot A. Serkan Sehlikoglu has been serving as Captain Pilot and Head of Training at Fiba Air since the year 2009; and has around 6000 hours of flight time.

Foreign students are admitted to the institutions of higher education in Turkey on condition that applicants fulfill the requirements for student admission determined by the relevant institution of higher education and approved by the Council of Higher Education.
The applications from following students will be accepted:

  • foreign students who are either high school graduates or are studying their last year in high school,
  • students with dual nationality who abandoned their Turkish or TRNC citizenship and who complete their entire high school education abroad
  • citizens of TRNC who have completed their entire high school in TRNC and have GCE A/L result
