The Master of Science Program in Mathematics is intended to be an exploration in some depth of a particular area of Mathematics as well as an extension/completion at a higher level of education of the knowledge achieved in the undergraduate studies. It is of course the first step towards the doctorate in Mathematics. The current research interests of the faculty members of the Mathematics Department of the Atılım University focus mainly on algebra, number theory, analysis, geometry and topology, differential and difference equations, numerical analysis, probability and statistics and cryptology.

Program Content
Master of Science program with thesis option contains 4 compulsory and 3 elective courses, while Master of Science program without thesis option 4 compulsory and 6 elective courses. Throughout the programs, a maximum number of two undergradute courses can be taken with the approval of the advisor. In this case, for each of these undergraduate courses a “special studies” course should be taken, which are denoted by “Math 580 Special Studies I” and “Math 581 Special Studies II”.

Application and Admission
The students are accepted to the Mathematics Master's Program based on their undergraduate Cumulative Grade Point Average, ALES result (minimum 55 points), English Proficiency Exam result (minimum 60 points), and a personal interview.

SCHOLARSHIP REGULATION
Scope
Article 1: This regulation stipulates the guidelines for scholarships awarded to Atılım University students by the Board of Trustees of Atılım University.
Aim
Article 2: The aims of the Scholarship Regulation are to encourage the students to study more, to increase the success rate of the students and to support successful students financially.
Types of Scholarships
A) Success Scholarships
1. Outstanding Success Scholarship: Out of students who have enrolled in an undergraduate programme with full scholarship, students ranking within the top 1-5000 in the LYS (Undergraduate Placement Examination) and YGS (Transition to Higher Education Examination) according to scoring categories of MF-4 (Mathematics-Science), TM-1-2-3 (Turkish-Mathematics), TS-1 (Turkish-Social Sciences) and YGS-1-6 and enrolling in an undergraduate programme and students ranking within the top 5001-10000 scale and enrolling in an undergraduate programme, also students ranking the top 10001-15000 scale and enrolling in an undergraduate programme shall be exempt from tuition fee and during each academic semester they shall be provided with book support and monthly allowance to be specified according to their scores.
2. Cengiz Yenerim Scholarship: Students who have a GPA of 3.90-4.00 at the end of the first academic year or successive years and who have not failed in any of their courses are awarded this scholarship. Students awarded this scholarship shall be exempt from tuition fee and provided with book support and monthly allowance during the academic year.
3. Cevdet Kösemen Scholarship: Students who have a GPA of 3.70-3.89 at the end of the first academic year or successive years and who have not failed in any of their courses are awarded this scholarship. Students awarded this scholarship shall be exempt from tuition fee and are also provided with book support.
4. Honorary Scholarship: Students who have a GPA between 3.50-3.69 at the end of the first academic year or successive years and who have not failed in any of their courses are awarded this scholarship. The tuition fee of the scholarship recipients is waived.
5. High Success Scholarship: Students who have a GPA of 3.30-3.49 at the end of the first academic year or successive years and who have not failed in any of their courses are awarded this scholarship. 1/2 of the tuition fee of the scholarship recipients is waived
6. Success Scholarship: Students who have a GPA of 3.00-3.29 at the end of the first academic year or successive years and who have not failed in any of their courses are awarded this scholarship. 1/3 of the tuition fee of the scholarship recipients is waived.
7. Hasan Tanık Scholarship: Students who study at the Faculty of Management and have the highest GPA at the end of the first academic year or successive years and who have not failed in any of their courses shall be awarded this scholarship. According to their GPA they shall take advantage of the opportunities stated in Article 2, 3, 4, 5.
8. Ayşe Nihan Kolukısa Scholarship: Students who study at the Faculty of Management and have the second highest GPA at the end of the first academic year or successive years and who have not failed in any of their courses shall be awarded this scholarship. According to their GPA they shall take advantage of the opportunities stated in Article 2, 3, 4, 5.
9. Yiğit Kutay Aktaş Scholarship: Students who study at the Faculty of Management and have the third highest GPA at the end of the first academic year or successive years and who have not failed in any of their courses shall be awarded this scholarship. According to their GPA they shall benefit from the opportunities stated in Article 2, 3, 4, 5.
10. Çiğdem Akın Scholarship: Students who study at the Faculty of Management and have the fourth highest GPA at the end of the first academic year or successive years and who have not failed in any of their courses shall be awarded this scholarship. According to their GPA they shall take advantage of the opportunities stated in Article 2, 3, 4, 5.
Scholarships except for the Outstanding Success Scholarship shall be determined by the GPA obtained at the end of the spring semester of the first academic year or successive years. The GPA obtained at the end of the Summer School shall not be included in the assessment.
For the continuation of the scholarships except for the Outstanding Success Scholarship students shall not receive lower GPA in the successive academic year and be successful in each course.
Students who are awarded scholarships except for the Outstanding Success Scholarship and exempt from tuition fee shall pay contributory allowance for education each year which is specified by the Board of Trustees of Atılım University.
The amount of book support and monthly allowance shall be specified by the Board of Trustees each year.
Upon demand of the students who are awarded scholarships students except for the Outstanding Success Scholarship are charged with tasks stated below for up to five hours per week in order to enable them contribute to the education-training and research activities of the university and increase their accumulation of knowledge. Students shall not be paid for these tasks.
a) Students help instructors assess assignments, quizzes and reports in the courses in which they have obtained BB or higher grades
b) They help other students/ student groups with their works in the courses in which they have obtained BB or higher grades.
c) They take part in the university promotion activities of the Directorate of Press and Public Relations and relevant departments.
B) Scholarship of Encouragement
Students experiencing financial difficulty in paying their tuition fee shall be provided with this scholarship in order to enable them to continue their education and increase their success. Students who are awarded this scholarship are exempt from certain amount of tuition fee.
Scholarship of Encouragement is awarded for a period of one academic year.
C) Scholarships Specified Annually According to the Quota As Stipulated by Additional Article 18 of the Law No 2547
According to the amount of their scholarship, the undergraduate students who are awarded 100%, 75%, 50% and 25% scholarship shall be exempt from tuition fee during the English Preparatory School for four semesters and during undergraduate programme for eight semesters. These scholarships shall be uninterrupted for eight semesters; nevertheless, scholarships of the students shall resume on condition that they are unable to graduate from university at the end of the eight semesters.
Students who are placed in one of the associate degree programmes and awarded scholarships shall be exempt from tuition fee according to the percentage of their scholarships for four semesters. These scholarships are uninterrupted for eight semesters;
nevertheless, scholarships of the students who are unable to graduate from university at the end of the eight semesters shall resume.
Students who are awarded scholarships shall have the right to take courses in the summer school period on condition that they pay their fee.
Scholarships are unreturned. Students shall not be exempt from tuition fee or any other related fee for continuing semesters if their periods of study extend.
Scholarships of the students who make internal transfer shall resume.
The period of double major and minor programmes is nine semesters. Students who cannot graduate from university at the end of nine semesters and continue their programmes are entitled to pay their tuition fee.

D) Athletic Scholarships
1. Students who have become World, Europe and Turkey champions, who take part in A, Youth/Under 21 National Teams, and students who actively compete in primary league and primary league teams or in the first, second or third ranking teams in Turkish championships in senior national teams shall be awarded athletic scholarships on condition that they take part in
the University team of their own branches. The tuition fee of the athletic scholarship recipients is waived.
2. Students who are young national athletes actively playing in the secondary league teams and taking part in amateur team championships shall be awarded athletic scholarships on condition that they take part in the University team in their own branches. 50% of the tuition fee of the athletic scholarship recipients is waived.
3. Students who are athletes in any of the sport branches in regional league teams, who are Turkish champions in individual branches, regional championships or amateur teams shall be awarded athletic scholarships on condition that they take part in the University team in their own branches. 50% of the tuition fee of the athletic scholarship recipients is waived.
4. Students who do not fall within the scope of Article 1, 2 and 3, but are selected for the University team and gain individual success or play successfully in teams shall be awarded athletic scholarships. 10% of the tuition fee of the athletic scholarship recipients is waived.
Although the priority for awarding scholarships is given to academic success of students, awarding athletic scholarship also depends on their representation of the university in their own branches. Athletes and their branches to be awarded athletic scholarships shall be determined by the Board of Trustees with the proposal of Atılım University Sports Office and the consent of the President’s Office. Students shall be awarded athletic scholarship for one year.
In order to be awarded athletic scholarship, students studying at the English Preparatory School shall be successful in the undergraduate programme in the same year and students who are studying at the undergraduate programmes shall have minimum GPA of 1.70 and they shall take part in activities related to their teams such as meetings, trainings, matches, displacements, etc., (their participation to these activities shall be observed by the Sports Office and the reports shall be provided by the Office) and shall continue their outstanding performances and trainings.
Athletic scholarships will be annulled when students no longer fulfill the requirements to be awarded these scholarships and take part in meetings, trainings, matches, displacements, etc.
E) Martyrs’ Children Scholarship
Five martyrs’ children (children of military personnel or police officers) who have enrolled in one of our University programmes shall be awarded this scholarship. Students who are awarded this scholarship shall be exempt from 100% of tuition fee in the first year. These students are entitled to pay for the contributory allowance for education which is specified by the Board of Trustees each year.
For the continuation of Martyrs’ Children Scholarship those students at the English Preparatory School are required to take 60 points out of 100 points from English Proficiency Exam prepared by the Preparatory School or to be successful in one of the exams which are regarded as equivalent with the English Proficiency Exam (Public Servants Foreign Language Proficiency Examination (KPDS)/ Inter - Universities Board Foreign Language Exam (ÜDS) 76, Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL-IBT) 91, Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL-CBT) 233, international exams of International English Language Testing System (IELTS) 5,5 and First Certificate in English (FCE) C) and to register for the academic programme to which they have previously been placed.
The CGPA of those students at undergraduate programmes is required to be 2.50 and students must complete all of their courses successfully and earn the right to pass to the upper grade.
For the continuation of Martyrs’ Children Scholarship, students shall have the GPA of 2.50 in the successive academic years and be successful in all of their courses and have the right to pass to the higher grade.
Martyrs’ Children Scholarship shall cover only tuition fee. There shall never be discount in other fees such as summer school tuition fee, make-up exam fee, etc.
Allocation of Scholarships
Article 4: The Board of Trustees shall take the success reports of students from the Rectorate at the beginning of each academic year. On condition that there are students who fall within the scope of this regulation, the Board of Trustees shall announce the students who are awarded scholarships according to quota and amount allocated.
The Board of Trustees of Atılım University has the right to charge a commission with the determination of students who fulfill the provisions of this regulation.
Except for the students with LYS scholarships, students who are temporarily suspended from our University according to Disciplinary Regulation for Students of Institutions of Higher Education shall not be awarded scholarships.
Students who fulfill the requirements of more than one scholarship or reduction shall be awarded only one scholarship or reduction.
Payment of Scholarships
Article 5: Students who are awarded scholarships are informed about their conditions. Students who have the right to get book aid and monthly allowance are supported directly.
Cessation of the Scholarship
Article 6: Scholarships of students who do not fulfill the requirements stated in this regulation shall result in the cessation.
Amendment of the Regulation
Article 7: With the aim of increasing the success of students and encouraging them, the Board of Trustees has the right to amend articles in the regulation.
Enforcement
Article 8: This Regulation mentioned herein comes into effect from the start of 2012-2013 academic year. Execution
Article 9: The provisions of this regulation contained hereafter are executed by the Board of Trustees of Atılım University.
Temporary Article:
1. The provisions related to double major and minor programmes in the sixth paragraph of the subparagraph (C) of the regulation shall not be applied to students with LYS scholarship who have enrolled in our University before the 2012-2013 academic year and who are still studying at one of our undergraduate programmes and pursuing double major and minor degree.
