Course Content

The subjects covered will ensure you have the complete knowledge and skills to safely and competently support the operator and patient during treatment.
You will specifically focus on the following areas:

  • general anatomy and physiology
  • oral anatomy and physiology
  • health safety and infection control procedures
  • human and oral diseases (pathology and microbiology)
  • instruments, materials and equipment associated with a range of dental procedures
  • methods of assisting the operator during a range of dental treatments
  • patient management techniques
  • preventive dentistry
  • dental public health
  • law and ethics
  • reflective practice and professionalism
  • assisting the operator during dental radiographic procedures

Core units in this programme include:

  • Dental Nursing Practice
  • Foundations of Clinical Practice
  • Introduction to Behavioural Science
  • Introduction to Human Sciences
  • Personal and Professional Development

As part of our commitment to the NHS, each student will complete a programme of Statutory and Mandatory training in line with the NHS framework.

During your study with us you will learn about the anatomy and physiology of the head and neck, understand body systems, investigate and apply national guidance in relation to health, safety and infection control, explore methods of communication across a range of mediums, relate evidence based theory and learn the practical skills necessary to support dental care delivery in the UK.

Teaching and Assessment

You will be taught through a combination of lectures, seminars, practical laboratory work and guided reading. Our academic staff have expertise in clinical practice and research, and we provide a student-centred approach to teaching, with all units fully supported by online lecture and study materials.

How are you assessed?

On this course there is a balance of formal examinations and coursework assessment. You will be expected to complete coursework throughout the year, whereas exams take place at the end of the academic year.


UK requirements for international applications

Universities in the United Kingdom use a centralized system of undergraduate application: University and College Admissions Service (UCAS). It is used by both domestic and international students. Students have to register on the UCAS website before applying to the university. They will find all the necessary information about the application process on this website. Some graduate courses also require registration on this website, but in most cases students have to apply directly to the university. Both undergraduate and graduate students may receive three types of responses from the university. The first one, “unconditional offer” means that you already reached all requirements and may be admitted to the university. The second one, “conditional offer” makes your admission possible if you fulfill some criteria – for example, have good grades on final exams. The third one, “unsuccessful application” means that you, unfortunately, could not be admitted to the university of you choice.

All universities require personal statement, which should include the reasons to study in the UK and the information about personal and professional goals of the student and a transcript, which includes grades received in high school or in the previous university.

Requirements

80 points from 1 A level or 2 AS Levels in a pure Science subject. All shortlisted applicants are subject to interview. All offers are subject to Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) clearance and Occupational Health clearance.

English language proficiency at a minimum of IELTS band 7.0 with no component score below 6.5.
