The Master of Science program in Industrial Management is designed for students with a profound engineering background who aim to take on leadership positions in industrial and technology-based organisations.

The focus of studies within the program lies in providing valuable engineering knowledge as well as business know-how. The GMIT program integrates technological knowledge and management skills, helping students cope with competitive business challenges while comprehending the underlying technology. Thus, the aim of GMIT is to educate technology management professionals with an international mindset.

GMIT programme is produced by the LUT School of Industrial Engineering and Management, which has been awarded three times as a national centre of excellence in university education in Finland, and the Master's Degree Program in Industrial Management is an ASIIN e.V accredited degree program.

The LUT Department of Industrial Management is also part of a strong ESTIEM student network, which has enabled European-wide networking opportunities for our students.

The two-year programme offers a wide variety of perspectives on the management of innovations and technology that is based on the combination of business, engineering and management. Diverse study methods and working in teams develop students' ability to cooperate and solve complex situations in today's networked business world. Close collaboration with companies in a Master's theses project offers students invaluable professional experience and contacts.

LUT Faculty of Industrial Engineering and Management educates knowledgeable, business-oriented students devoted to their own special subjects of technology and management for the service of industrial companies and commercial and public organizations.

After completing the degree, the graduate can do the folllowing:

  • create and analyse strategies within an international context relating to products, services and technologies
  • practice and manage strategies of decision-making, frameworks and tools in global networks and markets
  • analyse processes and structures of organizations and their development issues
  • practice, plan and manage the build-up of product families, product systems, and product platforms for tangible and intangible goods using widely different management methods in companies and networks
  • plan and manage international business
  • apply theories, methods and tools of decision-making and analysis to practical management activities.

Degree Structure and Studies

GMIT is a two-year programme leading to the degree of Master of Science (Tech). The programme course package is worth approximately 90 ECTS credits, and at the end of their studies, students write a Master's thesis which counts as an additional 30 ECTS credits. The programme is worth a total worth of 120 ECTS credits, leading to a Master of Science in Technology degree.

Corporate relevance

The professors and lecturers in the GMIT programme are internationally experienced and competent in their areas of expertise, which ensures the quality of the programme and is important in today's fast-changing business environment.

Most of the students at the Department of Industrial Management write their Master's Thesis for companies. Already during the earlier study phases the students are actively collaborating with Finnish companies, specialised particularly in the high-tech industrial fields. Close contacts to companies at the Master's thesis phase give students invaluable benefits for their future careers.

Career prospects

International studies combined with engineering and business administration skills and a multi-cultural study environment provide graduates with interesting and challenging career prospects. Global customer-supplier relationships and business networks demand talented young professionals in management of innovations and technologies, industrial marketing, sales, supply chain management and technology sourcing.

Graduated students from the Department of Industrial Management have been employed as export managers, key account managers, logistic managers, controllers, analysts, business application specialists, operative purchasers, technology innovation managers, etc. The studies also give graduated students a firm basis for doctoral studies in the field of industrial management.

Scholarships

Lappeenranta University of Technology (LUT) offers international degree students a limited number of scholarships in three different categories:

  • Tuition Fee Scholarship, covering 25-100 % of the tuition fee (if applicable)
  • Full Scholarship, covering the tuition fee and living expenses
  • Living Cost Scholarship, covering the living costs

The scholarships are based on academic excellence and/or the need for financial aid to support the studies at LUT.

Scholarship Programmes

LUT General Scholarship Program

The scholarships offer you the possibility of being financially supported during your period of study at LUT. The aim of the LUT general scholarship program is to help you with your tuition fee or to get financial support for your living expenses in adequately completing your studies at LUT. The student applies for a scholarship in one of the categories mentioned above, while LUT takes care of granting the possible scholarship from this programme.

Partnership Scholarship Program for Russian Universities

The aim of the scholarship program is to create more extensive cooperation between LUT and a number of Russian universities on education and research and to strengthen these networks, as well as to transfer knowledge between the Finnish and Russian economies.

Students coming from these Russian universities do not have to specifically apply for this particular scholarship. The student applies for a scholarship in one of the categories mentioned above, while LUT takes care of granting the possible scholarship from this programme whenever the student becomes eligible for this scholarship.

The Fulbright-Lappeenranta University of Technology Graduate Award

The Fulbright student award competition is open to students from the U.S. who have at least a Bachelor's degree. The Fulbright scholarship has its own application process, application period and criteria.

Accreditation

The Finnish Higher Education Evaluation Council has appointed LUT's Department of Industrial Management as a national centre of excellence in university education three times.

Master's Degree Programme in Industrial Management is ASIIN e.V.-accredited degree program. The quality label is a certificate of high-quality engineering education, international recognition of the degrees and a guarantee of continuous development of education.
