Graduate programs in Aerospace Science and Engineering are offered by the University of Toronto Institute for Aerospace Studies (UTIAS), leading to research-intensive Master of Applied Science and Doctor of Philosophy degrees and a professionally oriented Master of Engineering degree.

Faculty research areas include aircraft flight systems and control, flight simulation, computational fluid dynamics, combustion and propulsion, aerodynamic shape optimization, experimental fluid dynamics, flow control, structural mechanics, advanced composite materials, multidisciplinary optimization of aircraft, multifunctional systems, spacecraft dynamics and control, autonomous space robotics, microsatellites, space mechatronics, plasma-materials interactions, and materials for fusion reactors.

The Institute for Aerospace Studies may accept candidates for the M.Eng. degree under the general regulations of the School of Graduate Studies.

Under the guidance of the graduate coordinator or a staff supervisor, a candidate selects a program of study that consists of at least 10 courses. Individual programs will be arranged to make up for background deficiency. The program may be pursued on a full-time (one year over three terms), extended full-time (two years, up to six courses per year over three terms) or part-time (three years and maximum six years, up to four courses per year over three terms) basis.

Candidates for the M.Eng. degree shall hold a B.A.Sc. degree from the University of Toronto or an equivalent four-year degree in engineering. Applicants who obtained their undergraduate degrees in universities outside of Canada and the USA must also write the GRE General Test and the TOEFL (including a test of written English). Alternative English proficiency tests are also acceptable, including IELTS, according to the School of Graduate Studies English Proficiency Requirement.Applicants must provide official (hard copy) transcripts for all post-secondary programs completed, attempted, or in progress. Transcripts must list the years of study, courses taken and grades received.Applicants who attend(ed) non-English speaking universities must have the universities provide official transcripts and proof of degree conferral in the original language, as well as in English. U of T is committed to the financial support of graduate students in doctoral-stream programs. For eligible students, funding packages consist of an amount equal to the cost of academic tuition fees plus a $15,000 stipend.

Students in professional master's and doctoral programs typically self-fund their educational expenses through a variety of programs including student loans, student line of credit, and employment income. Students may also be eligible for a limited number of graduate awards made available through their graduate units and various external agencies.
