The oldest and most fundamental of academic disciplines, Philosophy develops the skills needed to analyse complex and abstract problems, to read carefully and critically assess challenging pieces of textual material, and to creatively explore important questions in every field of human inquiry. By engaging with historical and contemporary work in philosophy, you will develop the skills to become more intellectually secure and self-reliant. Philosophy is of great value in itself and is also excellent training not only for academic and educational, but also for professional careers, especially law, business, government, and medicine. Students with undergraduate philosophy degrees have the background preparation to excel on standardized professional and graduate school admissions tests such as LSAT (Law School Admissions Test), the GMAT (Graduate Management Admissions Test), and the GRE (Graduate Record Exam).Career opportunities may be found in journalism, law, medicine, teaching, and professional consulting to government, businesses, and hospitals.
