Computer Science is that branch of science that deals with the theory and methods of processing information in digital computers, the design of computer software, and the applications of computers. Graduates of the program enjoy attractive career opportunities in Qatar and world-wide. The Computer Science Program at Qatar University was first offered in 1989 and is the first computer-related undergraduate educational program offered in Qatar. The Computer Science program is home to over 250 undergraduate students who engage in a broad range of research and learning activities that span the entire spectrum of computer science. These include working with databases, wireless communication, networking, mobile computing, software development, web systems, and many others.

Definition

The Computer Science program is concerned with the design, modeling, analysis, and applications of computer-related systems. The program provides coverage of diverse subjects in computer science including computer architecture, computer networks, database systems, distributed computer system, programming languages, software engineering, computer applications, and computer science theory. The computer science program provides students with a solid base in computer science covering both theory and applications, and enhances their ability to pursue their interests in the general areas of computing.

All applicants who have never attended a university or who have not earned at least 24 credit hours at a university and who are applying to Qatar University as either Foundation Program or Undergraduate applicants are classified as First Year applicants.
