Studying at TU/e means studying at a Dutch top university. A university with a unique Bachelor College and its own Graduate School. TU/e is a medium-sized university with an open, friendly atmosphere where your studies are well supervised and where there is plenty of personal contact with lecturers and staff. Experienced TU/e coaches are by your side to offer personal advice from the very start of your study, from the moment you enroll at the Bachelor College when you and your coach look at the major that best suits you and how you can best supplement this with your electives. And if you should find out during your first year that a different major suits you better, then you can look at the options with your coach for switching major within this first year.

TU/e offers students various Bachelor and Master programs. We educate engineers whose scientific basis is solid and penetrative and who have an entrepreneurial attitude.

From design-based learning to self-study
We offer different kinds of approaches: inspiring lectures, small-scale instruction, supervised self-study and Design-Based Learning (DBL) during which you work in small teams on technology design assignments. You will have practical internships and do graduation projects in industry or government. As a TU/e student you not only gain thorough scientific knowledge but also learn to apply this knowledge in practice as well as develop social and communication skills. During your Bachelor program you also get the opportunity to cross over the borders of your own subject through the major-minor system.

Personal contact
TU/e is a relatively small university with a high ratio of scientific personnel. Students consider the atmosphere open and informal, which fosters easy contact with lecturers. The university community is international and multicultural and English is increasingly becoming the first language. We encourage our students to pick up credits abroad and to this end TU/e cooperates with foreign universities in China, India, America, Australia and Europe, among other regions.

The Eindhoven University of Technology was founded as the Technische Hogeschool Eindhoven (THE) on 23 June 1956 by the Dutch government. The University was acknowledged for its research in Automobile sector. It was the second institute of its kind in the Netherlands, preceded only by the Delft University of Technology. It is located on its own campus in the center of Eindhoven, just north of the central station. It is currently home to about 240 professors, 7200 students, 250 PDEng-students, 600 Ph.D. students, 200 post-doc students and 3000 regular employees. It supports about 100 student associations and 15 alumni associations.[9] Yearly, the Eindhoven University of Technology produces almost 3000 scientific publications, 140 PhD-awards, and 40 patents.

The Eindhoven University of Technology is main participant in the technological top institutes DPI and M2i. One of its former students is Gerard Kleisterlee, a former CEO of Philips.

The university is in an area where several companies active in technology are doing their research, like Philips, ASML and DAF. The university maintains close contacts with most of these companies.

As of 29 April 2005, Prof.dr.ir. C.J. van Duijn has the position of rector magnificus.

In 2006, the university celebrated its 50th birthday.

In a 2003 European Commission report,[10] TU/e was ranked as 3rd among European research universities (after Cambridge and Oxford, at equality with TU Munich and thus making it the highest ranked Technical University in Europe), based on the impact of its scientific research. In 'The Times Higher Education Supplement World University Ranking 2005'.[11] it was ranked 74th among world universities, and 67th in 2006.

The university operates several international cooperations with other universities all over the world; the Brain Bridge with Zhejiang University, People's Republic of China, is an example of such a cooperation. Also, the university maintains partnerships with several Dutch universities and announced a "preferred partnership" with the Universiteit Utrecht on 3 January 2011

That’s evident from the high position of our university in national and international rankings:

  • In the Times Higher Educational World University Rankings of 2014-2015 Eindhoven University of Technology was ranked 144.
  • Academic Ranking of World Universities 2015 (Shanghai ranking) ranked TU/e as best Dutch engineering university.
  • Our position at QS World University Rankings in 2014 is 147.
  • Our university is considered the best Dutch engineering and science university by the Study Guide to Universities 2016 and the Guide to Choosing a Master’s program 2015.
  • Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e) has been named as best university in the Netherlands by the weekly magazine Elsevier in  2014.

The ranking of the CWTS (The Center for Science and Technology Studies, Leiden University) assesses the research of universities according to the publications on which universities and companies have collaborated. Eindhoven University of Technology is, together with Wageningen University and University Twente among others, in the top 50 overall. The ranking position depends on the quantity of public-private co-publications within a university’s entire publication package.

Eindhoven student city
Eindhoven is a modern, dynamic city that guarantees an enjoyable study period and varied student life. The vibrant spirit liveliness of Eindhoven along with the exuberant Brabant way of life will make you feel at home.

TU/e’s research is internationally prominent. The European Union ranked TU/e third (after the universities of Cambridge and Oxford) in terms of publications in scientific journals. Eindhoven researchers and research programs achieve high scores in international research assessments.

Largest scientific output
Of the 350 best performing research universities around the world TU/e creates relatively the largest scientific output in cooperation with industry according to the ranking by the Leiden Center for Science and Technology Studies (CWTS). This position confirms the unique, close R&D cooperation between TU/e and the high-tech industry in Brainport Eindhoven and the rest of the Netherlands.

Health, energy and mobility
TU/e leads from the front as an international research university in engineering science and technology. Through close cooperation with industry and the healthcare sector we translate our research results into innovative products and services, especially in the fields of health, energy and mobility.

Modern research equipment
The Eindhoven researchers have modern and unique research equipment and laboratories at their disposal. Many departments, for instance, use the ultramodern large cleanroom on the campus. TU/e also sets the tone in the Netherlands with the Dutch Polymer Institute, the Embedded Systems Institute and, recently, participation in the Center for Translational Molecular Medicine as well as being an active participant in the Holst Center recently established by Philips, IMEC and TNO for autonomous wireless systems and systems-in-foil. Together with industry and government in the region TU/e continues to cooperate in a whole range of projects to strengthen the economic structure. Links with Philips Research in particular are close. More than 20 percent of researchers working at Philips Research all over the world were educated at TU/e.
