Centrally located in the Lower Rhine region of Germany, Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences sits a stone's throw from the Dutch border, roughly halfway between the Dutch cities of Nijmegen and Arnhem to the north and the major German cities of Düsseldorf and Cologne to the south. Our founding goal in 2009 was to build an innovative, interdisciplinary, and international university of applied sciences. Our commitment to this goal has been met with brilliant success, as both the size and scope of our university have grown rapidly over recent years. Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences currently offers over 30 undergraduate and postgraduate degree programmes in life sciences, social sciences, engineering, and technology. Our innovative programmes are closely attuned to the current and future needs of industry and designed to produce graduates with expert qualifications and practical work experience in their field of study. Around 75% of our programmes are taught in English, which attracts students from all over the world. In fact, international students make up a third of our total student population. Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences prides itself in top-notch teaching, excellent research, and a rich international network of partnerships and industry contacts. Students enjoy our friendly and personable campus atmosphere as well as small class sizes and close interaction with professors who know you by name. Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences sits in the historic and picturesque Lower Rhine region, nestled between the Netherlands and the Rhine-Ruhr metropolitan region, which is one of the largest population centres in Europe. The university has two campus locations, in Kleve and in Kamp-Lintfort. About Kleve: Kleve has approx. 50,000 residents and is located some 10 km from the Dutch border. Due to its location and history, Kleve enjoys a unique German-Dutch cultural overlap and has a lively, international feel to it. Its proximity to both the Dutch cities of Nijmegen and Arnhem and the German cities of Düsseldorf and Cologne allows residents to benefit from both the bustle and excitement of a big city and the safety, comfort, and cosiness of a smaller city. The Kleve Campus sits in the heart of the city, and the flat landscape and good infrastructure make cycling a fun and effective mode of transport. Sights include the 11th-century Schwanenburg Castle, Baroque-style botanical gardens, cultural museums, and art galleries. The city offers shopping in the form of large department stores and local boutiques, pubs, cafés, and a small nightlife scene. Students can also enjoy a diverse range of sport activities offered through the university and local clubs, which are free to attend and a great way to meet the locals. About Kamp-Lintfort: Kamp-Lintfort has a current population of about 37,000. It sits around 60 km south of Kleve, very close to Duisburg and the heart of the bustling Rhine-Ruhr region. Kamp-Lintfort once played an integral role in the coal mining industry in Germany and has seen a profound economic resurgence in recent years with its shift towards technology, innovation, and higher education. Our Kamp-Lintfort Campus is located in the heart of the city, so students can easily get about on foot. Kamp-Lintfort is best known for its namesake, the nearly 900-year-old monastery "Kloster Kamp", which to this day gives visitors the impression that they've been transported back in time. Apart from its historical sights, the vibrant town is characterised by a welcoming, safe, and neighbourly atmosphere and offers numerous shops, bars, and sports activities for students.

Our Welcome Centre supports international students during their first few weeks in Germany. The Welcome Centre provides helpful advice and guidance on contracts, opening a bank account, registering your place of residence, applying for a student visa, setting up health insurance, and more. The student mentors at the Welcome Centre know first-hand what it's like adjusting to life as a student in Germany. They are also an important first contact point for students with personal and social issues, as they can direct students to the right place for their specific needs. The Welcome Centre also promotes student culture at the university by organising trips and excursions to destinations all around the region as well as a range of social events for students such as the annual "Freshtival", the university's week-long orientation festival for new students in the winter semester.
