About the University

From January 1st 2017 Hedmark University of Applied Sciences and Lillehammer University College are merged into the new institution Inland Norway University of Applied Sciences (INN University).

Hedmark University of Applied Sciences (HUAS) is a Norwegian state education and research institution funded from the Ministry of Education and Research following decision on budget allocations in the Norwegian National Assembly. In addition HUAS also has other financial sources, mostly from other public founded bodies. 

Hedmark University of Applied Sciences (HUAS) is among the largest of the university colleges in Norway (4000 students). It provides high standards and modern, research-based teaching. Hedmark University of Applied Sciences has increasingly active international campuses and cooperates with universities in the United States, in Africa, in Asia, Australia and in Europe. It is located in the south-eastern part of Norway, approximately 2 hours drive north of Oslo.

HUAS is highly involved with European education programmes such as Erasmus and Nordplus. These programmes give students and staff an opportunity to study, teach or do research at other universities. HUAS offers 24 bachelor programs, 1 integrated five year bachelor- and master program, 10 master programs (all 120 ECTS) and to doctoral programs. All these programs are funded by the National budget.

  • Faculty of Education and Natural Sciences

    The Faculty of Education and Natural Sciences at Campus Hamar has 1700 students enrolled in research-based study programmes within the fields of the Humanities, Social Sciences, Teacher Education, Fine Arts, Computer Science and Biotechnology. The Faculty provides diverse opportunities for short term exchange students and degree-seeking students from our worldwide network of Erasmus, Nordplus and bilateral partners as well as for free-movers.

    The student town of Hamar is situated in the fertile cultural landscape along the banks of Lake Mjøsa in south eastern Norway. Located only a 1.5 hours train ride from Oslo, Hamar is a place where rural traditions blend with urban lifestyles, offering exciting adventures for the curious-minded. Our campus is located in the city centre, and as a student at the Faculty of Education and Natural Sciences you benefit from a stimulating and inclusive academic environment matched with a wide range of extracurricular activities, new friends and memories you'll never forget.

  • Faculty of Public Health

    Faculty of Public Health is the place for you who want to study or work with Health and Sports on a university college level. The Campus is situated in the town of Elverum, which has chosen Public Health as an area of commitment and also has multiple possibilities for outdoor activities, sports and cultural experiences in the surrounding area.

    There are approximately 1100 students enrolled at Campus Elverum. Our study programme covers fields from Nursing, Health Promoting Dental Care and Mental Health, to Sports and Outdoor life. Our study- and research profile is Public Health, and there is an active professional and scientific environment at campus. Faculty of Public Health has an international commitment, co-operating with partners on all continents.

    In January 2011 we moved into new and top modern teaching facilities at Terningen Arena, with other tenants that might be partners in future common projects. The construction includes modern premises for Nursing and Dental practice, as well as excellent facilities for Sports.

  • Faculty of Business Administration

    Campus Rena has approximately 2900 students enrolled in study programmes within the field of business administration. 
    The Faculty provides opportunities for short term exchange students in marketing and internationalization from our worldwide network of Erasmus, bilateral partners as well as for free-movers.

  • Faculty of Applied Ecology and Agricultural Sciences

    Education and research at the Faculty of Applied Ecology and Agricultural Sciences is dedicated to the sustainable use of natural resources. Situated in a marvellous landscape of forests, mountains and lakes, Campus Evenstad offers students interested in natural ecosystems and outdoor recreation a great platform for study.

    Thanks to an active research environment with an international reputation, courses are updated with the latest findings. Students may participate in on-going research projects on the management of large carnivores and herbivores, freshwater fisheries and forestry. The Department of Agricultural Sciences is located at Blæstad outside the city of Hamar, in an area dominated by farmland.

History of the University

INN University was formed on 1 January 2017 from a merger of Hedmark University College and Lillehammer University College. These two institutions date to 1994 and 1971 respectively. The rector is Kathrine Skretting, a professor of media studies who was the rector of Lillehammer University College prior to the merge.

Hedmark University of Applied Sciences (HUAS) was founded in 1994 as the result of a merger of four higher education institutions with long traditions: teacher education founded in 1867, forestry education in 1912, agricultural education in 1923, nursing education in 1927 and business and administration education in 1979.

Admission deadlines

Outside EU/EEA

The application deadline for applicants with citizenship or education from outside EU/EEA is February 1st. The deadline for uploading documents is February 15th. Please note that you must be qualified according to all the admission requirements including the English language requirement before February 15th.

From EU/EEA (+ Switzerland and Norway)

The application deadline for applicants with citizenship and education from EU/EEA is April 15th. The deadline for uploading documents is May 1st. If you graduate in the spring 2020 the documentation deadline for diplomas is July 1st.

Inland Norway University of Applied Sciences (INN) educates highly qualified, development-oriented candidates for kindergartens, schools, the health sector, agriculture and forestry, public management and business life. Up to date research is closely linked to each study programme and provides a solid base for INN research-based education.

National and international collaboration strengthens and enriches INN’ study programmes and research. INN in particular offers two PhD programs: one in Applied Ecology and one in Teacher Education.

INN plays an important role in the development of the region by collaborating actively with the community and the job market in Hedmark and the Inland Region and by working to qualify for full University status. INN is organised as a multi-campus institution in four host municipalities: Hamar, Elverum, Åmot and Stor-Elvdal.
