Competition For Designers By Andreu Wood

Andreu Wood, the international leader in wood furniture design, has announced a prize competition for design students and professionals (without age limit). The contestants must design an item of furniture (seat or table), that struddles all the characteristics outlined by Andreu World and resolves the technical and formal challenges set in the competition terms. The best designers are going to be awarded with cash-prizes at the ceremony in December 2016.

Prizes

• 1st prize – 3000 euros

• 2nd prize – 1000 euros

The jury will also award up to 4 non-monetary, special mentions

Deadline

All documentation must be sent to the company’s offices before November 25th, 2016.

Conditions

• Seating must be made of Beech wood, Oak wood or Walnut primarily. Chairs may be upholstered and veneered with board or plywood (it is optional), if a contestant considers it as appropriate measure.

• Tables must also be made of Beech wood, Oak wood or Walnut primarily. Tables may be veneered with board or plywood as well.

• Using other materials such as metals, plastics, glass, etc. is not prohibited but it should be no more than complementary, structural or incidental.

• All the designs presented must be new, not having been marketed or disclosed anywhere before the Competition.

The main requirements to the projects

• Innovative approach to design, quality, technology, production processes, etc.

• Congruence with the product philosophy and mission of Andreu World, S.A.

• Functionality: the item should match the functions for which has been designed.

• Implementation of simple and viable mass production possibilities.

• Manifold possibilities for diversification of the designed chairs and tables into occasional pieces (e.g. stools, easy chairs, sofas, etc. in the case of chairs, and of different sizes and heights in the case of tables).

• Suitability to different spaces and uses (home, office, etc.)
