"Global education" extended until 2025

The Russian government decided to extend the Global Education program, which allows students to study at foreign universities at the expense of the state, subject to employment in Russia: the corresponding decree was signed on March 15. The program was launched in 2014 and was initially approved only until 2016. In addition to the extension of the deadlines, the participants will be affected by one more change: the quota for employment of graduates in organizations in Moscow and St. Petersburg will now amount to 25% instead of 10% in the previous version of the program.

Recall that the Global Education program can be used by Russian citizens who have already received a higher education (bachelor's or specialist's degree), who independently entered leading foreign universities for master's, postgraduate (PhD) programsor residencies planning to continue their career in Russia after their graduation. Grants can be received by students studying in one of five areas: science, education, medicine, engineering and social management. 288 universities from 32 countries participate in the program - the criterion for inclusion in the list was their position in the world's leading university rankings - the university should be included in the world top 300 in two of the three most authoritative rankings (QS, THE, ARWU), and specialties and directionstraining - one of the 200 best in the world. The maximum grant amount is 2.7 million rubles per year - this amount includes tuition fees, as well as related expenses (accommodation, meals, textbooks, etc.).

After completing their studies, program participants must return to Russia within 30 days, and within three months after arrival - to start work in one of the Russian organizations cooperating with the program (corporations, universities, scientific organizations - more than 600 organizations in total, a complete list of which can be found on the program website. As mentioned above, only 25% of graduates will work in Moscow and St. Petersburg, while the rest will find jobs in other regions of the country.Participants choose the most attractive employing company themselves, while the Global Education program promotes employment.

To receive a grant, participants must register on the program website, attach the necessary documents (including documents confirming enrollment / admission to the university) and take part in the competitive selection. The selection criteria are a place in the electronic queue, professional experience, as well as the availability of publications indexed in Scopus and World of Science (for the Science direction). Each of the five areas of study has its own quotas: the organizers of the program pay attention to the fact that places in the areas of "social management" and "teacher training", as well as quotas for PhD programs, are filled the fastest, while potential undergraduate studentsin the areas of "science" and "engineering" much less.

Additional information on participation in the program can be found on the website.
