Intellectual Property Law

Intellectual Property Law is one of the subdivisions of Civil Law. It regulates relations in the area of origin, use and protection of intellectual property. Intellectual property is the set of exclusive rights of a person or legal entity on the results of creative or intellectual activity, or its methods of individualization such as company name, trademark or service mark. This intellectual activity must be intangible to be  a subject of Intellectual Property Law.

Intellectual property can be subdivided in two main categories - industrial property and copyright. Industrial property is everything related to industrial production - production models, trademarks, trade names. All this can belong to a legal entity.

Copyright covers works of art, scientific works, cinematography, music, and more. Copyright may belong to both legal entities and individuals.

Intellectual property law is taught in some universities specializing in law as a separate specialization of Civil Law.
