Islamic studies

Islamic studies is an academic discipline which subject is Islam and Islamic culture. It includes historical study of Islam: Islamic history and historiography, law, architecture, theology and philosophy. It also includes studying Qur'an, the Hadith and other texts of Islam.

Program structure

Islamic Studies can be taught in two different ways: as a sub-discipline of religious studies and as a sub-discipline of theology. In the first case, Islam is studied from a neutral point of view, in the second case - from a Muslim point of view.

How to apply?

Application requirements depend on the chosen institution and country. Please note that some programs can be available only for men, and some programs are opened only for Muslims. Sometimes knowledge of Arabic language is required.

All universities require English proficiency, which can be proved with TOEFL, IELTS or other language proficiency certificates. Applicants are often asked to write an essay about their connection to Islamic Studies.
