Conference on Gender Studies

The QueerFemSEE Conference is the first of its kind gathering of scholars from Eastern and Southeastern Europe who wish to present their work in the field of queer and feminist studies to colleagues.

One of the key topics of the conference is bridging the gap between Western and Eastern understanding of intersectional feminism. The purpose of the conference is to create an opportunity for discussion among scholars, students, activists and artists interested in how feminism and queer activism interact with the culture of Eastern European countries.

The conference is held by the University of Bucharest from 17 to 19 November 2017.

Participants with research on the following (and not only) topics are invited:

1.Gender and sexuality in the media...Discrimination levels, representation of women and LGBTQIA + people

in the media sphere, its successful examples;

2. Problems of transgender people, trans * activism, its reflection in the media;

3. Queer theory in the eastern tradition;

4. Artistic practices related to queer and feminist themes and their methodology;

5. Homonationalism;

6. The concept of intersectional feminism;

7. Feminism in Eastern European countries and its display in mass media and pop culture;

8. Life of LGBTQIA + people in the post-communist regime;

9. Queer characters in pop culture;

10. Feminist and queer spaces.

Funding

Participation in the conference is free.In addition, participants are provided with partial reimbursement of travel and accommodation costs in Bucharest- for this, you must indicate in the application that you need financial support.

How to apply?

Acceptance of applications for participation in the conference ends on July 30. The application must include a summary of your work (before500 words) as well as your biography;it must be sent to queerfemsee@gmail.com. All texts must be translated into English.
