Journalism internship in Germany

The Deutsche Welle news portal is looking for young people from all over the world to do an internship. Applicants must have experience working as a journalist (or in IT, economics or science).

Deutsche Welle is the only portal in Germany offering bilingual (English-German) internships. The internship will last a year and a half and will begin in September 2017. DW trainees take part in long-term innovative projects, work in DW branches in Berlin and Bonn, Brussels, Moscow or Washington, and also complete a month's internship at the German radio Deutschlandradio. Most often, after completing the internship, interns are offered a place in the Deutsche Welle state.

Interns will receive a salary of € 1,590 for the first six months, with salaries increasing thereafter.

Requirements for candidates

This internship is bilingual, therefore the applicant is required to:

  1. Be a native English speaker and have a good command of German,

  2. Or be a native German speaker and have a good command of English,

  3. Or be a native speaker of another language, butfluent in both English and German.

  4. In addition, candidates must have completed college or university studies and have relevant work experience.

An application for participation in the program can be submitted on the official website. The questionnaire includes information about education and work experience, as well as a letter of motivation. Deadline - February 22, 2017. Candidates will have to go through a multi-level selection process, including interviews in Bonn.
