This project will focus on the use of computer science and vision techniques to develop an image-based multi-parameter data collection system to monitor infrastructure earthworks, bridges and other infrastructure assets. It will build upon the work currently being carried out at the University using structure-from-motion and close range photogrammetry. This project will focus on adding intelligence and accuracy to the observed images and point clouds through image analysis techniques such as: model based object recognition and identification, segmentation, 3D modelling from point clouds, advanced visualization, and potentially other computer science techniques such as automated reasoning and machine learning.

Contents

The student will have the possibility to spend short visits at the University of Udine, Italy, under the supervision of Professor Andrea Fusiello.

Requirements

Applications are invited from candidates with or expecting a minimum of a UK upper second class honours degree (2:1), or equivalent, in a Science, Technology. and Engineering or Maths related subject.

Funding

Value: The studentship, which is open to UK/EU students in the first instance, will pay the full tuition fees at £4,000 (TBC), as well as providing an annual maintenance of £14,000 (TBC).
