Description

The Visual Effects and Motion Graphics course, was formerly known as Broadcast Media Design and Technology. This course title and content has been changed to focus and update the teaching content, meet the industry standards and requirements, and student employability in this field. In order to have this course accredited by Creative Skillset by the 2014/2015 academic year and meet the demand for better qualified professionals, the Digital Design and Technologies courses have been completely revamped starting at level 1 in the 2012-2013 academic year, with level 2 this 2013-2014 academic year and level 3 in 2014-2015.

Television, Film and Creative Industries in general have been experiencing a period of exponential growth over the last 5 years, with the added influence of the Internet and emerging technologies, which have changed the way TV and film are recorded, produced, screened and viewed. These developments, as well as the rapid growth of interactive and 3D TV have resulted in the need for a new type of creative technologist, while the increase in the sophistication of visual effects and post-production in films, TV and advertisements has increased demand for talented media designers.

Highly skilled, innovative, and exceptionally imaginative professionals are required to be fluent in the creative use of emerging digital media technologies and tools. This includes advanced titling artists, motion graphics designers, and visual effects experts and interactive technologists for Film and Video, TV, post-production, and virtual production environments.

Aims

The Visual Effects and Motion Graphics course aims to produce creative designers with the technological skill to both produce a short duration (2 minutes or less), high quality media piece, and to create post-production visual effects and motion graphics solutions of professional industry standard for any big or small VFX and Motion Design company in the UK and beyond.

The course content integrates creative design and technological skills development, and conceptual knowledge providing students with multiple, hybrid skills and aptitudes, developing their core skills and abilities that the industry requires in an ever-evolving, technologically demanding media landscape.

The course is designed to develop creative design, production, implementation, and post-production skills and processes, needed for the various phases of modern digital TV, video and filmmaking and workflow. There are few other programmes in the UK that aim to develop both the technological and aesthetic ingenuity required for the Visual Effects and Motion Graphics sector, within the entertainment and creative industries.

We have a proven track record in producing accomplished professionals of high caliber for this sector.
