Description
The major in Journalism is a professionally-focused degree providing students with a combination of digitally-oriented hands-on training and a solid intellectual grounding in theories and issues related to journalism, media and communications.
The degree trains students in all aspects of journalism -- from news gathering and reporting basics to magazine design and production, television news and video production, and digital journalism focused on a live website. Students will also acquire skills working with digital tools in production, design, and editing. The degree uses the universitys student media resources as workshops in a multi-platform approach to journalism production. Students will acquire professional-level skills writing and editing articles for a news site, producing video for television and websites, and managing a print and online magazine all working together under a common brand in a single newsroom setting.
Courses in social media, fashion journalism, media economics, and media law and ethics are among the many electives offered as part of the degree. Students enrolled in the Journalism major can also take minors in other disciplines across the university from business and comparative literature to international politics and Middle Eastern studies.
Courses are taught by seasoned journalists with experience at major international media outlets, digital practitioners leading student workshops, and scholars with longstanding teaching experience in media and communications.
