Interior Design is a spatial activity that links architecture and design, with an emphasis on the quality of materials. Interior designers are in high demand in a variety of employment sectors including retail, domestic, commercial and entertainment as well as events
and exhibitions.

Course Content

Our Interior Design course will let you specialise in Interior Design in different sizes from small to extra large (SMLXL).

The Interior Design MDes/BA course has specialisms in interior design products, architecture and transport. The Interior design products specialism (S) looks at interior product such as furniture, lighting, wallpaper, carpets and colour schemes. The architecture specialism (M, L, XL) looks at spatial interior design such as retail, commercial and domestic settings. The transport theme (M, L, XL) explores road, rail, air and seaborne transport interiors. The course also focuses on ‘green’ issues; students will be expected to create and design environments that will make a cleaner and more socially responsible planet in the future.

This course offers the options of a three year BA (Hons) degree, a four year MDes or a four year BA (Hons) degree that includes in the third year ‘Professional Enhancement’.

In the first year you will learn both 2D and 3D design skills including drawing for design. You will also learn theory, analysis, design thinking and creative skills plus an understanding of architecture, spatial design, materials and colour.

During the second year you will focus on your own particular strengths and interests. Learning will involve branding and design for different market places, and you will learn how to evaluate your work in relation to identified objectives.

The final year of the three year BA (Hons) degree involves your entering a national competition, followed by your major project. Students are expected to exhibit in our prestigious Degree Show.

Essential Entry Requirements:
  • 5 GCSEs at grade A*-C including English Language and Mathematics, or specified equivalents.
Typical Offers
  • A-Levels: CCC to include at least one Art or Design subject
  • BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma: MMM in an Art or Design subject
Access: A pass in the Access Diploma. Access applicants can meet the GCSE requirements through their current studies and do not need to have these qualifications separately.
  • International Baccalaureate Diploma: 27 points to include Art or Design at Higher level

Funding

Merit Scholarship Scheme

Merit Scholarship scheme: £1,000, in year one only and based on academic performance.

  • Available to all international students applying for full-time undergraduate and postgraduate programmes at Coventry University.
  • Scholarships are allocated on the basis of academic merit. (Postgraduate applicants must hold 2.1 or equivalent, undergraduate applicants must hold A-levels or equivalent at grades BBC)
  • There is no separate scholarship application process: all undergraduate applications from self-funded international students from any non-EU country and postgraduate applications from international, will automatically be considered for a merit award. You will not have to do anything, if you are successful you will be notified in due course by the International Office.
University Research Studentship Scheme

Occasionally, funding becomes available to enable the University, either centrally, through one of the faculties or from other sources, to offer research studentships in specified topics or fields of study.
