Majors graduating from the three health-science options (applied kinesiology, exercise science, and exercise physiology) will demonstrate mastery of concepts crucial to an understanding of basic human anatomy and physiology. After two years of basic math and science (biology, chemistry, physics, calculus, statistics, and computer science), upper-level students study human physiology as it relates to exercise and physical activity via such courses as system physiology, exercise physiology, kinesiology, motor learning, and movement experiences for disabled populations.

Upon completion of the three undergraduate science programs, students will be qualified for graduate programs in medicine, exercise physiology, physical and occupational therapy, cardiac rehabilitation, corporate fitness, athletic training, nurse practitioning, as well as most other health-related professions.

Majors in the sport management option will demonstrate mastery of concepts crucial to both theoretical and applied work in business and management. Upon completion of basic courses in economics, accounting, marketing, and communication, upper-level students will master the application of these basic business principles to a wide variety of sport settings via courses such as sport and law, risk management, organizational behavior in sport, sport sociology, sport psychology, and sport marketing and management.

Upon graduation, they will be prepared to enter careers in sport administration, sport marketing, facilities management, and commercial sport or go on to law school, master of business administration programs, or advanced degrees in marketing, administration, and business.

Course Content

Applied Kinesiology:
  • The Applied Kinesiology Option provides the student with a strong science foundation focusing on human anatomy and physiology, with an emphasis on preparation for further specialized graduate study or direct entrance into the job market.
Exercise Science:
  • The Exercise Science Option provides the student with a strong science foundation focusing on human anatomy and physiology, with an emphasis on preparation for further specialized graduate study or direct entrance into the job market. The rigor and broad science base of this option make it appropriate for students who wish to go into medicine or physical therapy. Exercise Science is essentially identical to Applied Kinesiology but includes the 3 labs (Exercise Physiology, Systems Physiology, and Exercise Testing & Prescription) and 3 additional elective credits.
Exercise Physiology:
  • The Exercise Physiology Option also provides students with a strong science foundation emphasizing preparation for further specialized graduate study or direct entrance into a variety of fields related to exercise physiology, biomechanics, sport medicine and direct entrance to upper level certifications in the rehabilitation and fitness industries.
Sport Management:
  • The Sport Management Option is designed to meet the growing interest in th business, administration, marketing, and management of sport programs and facilities. Graduates may choose to pursue advanced degrees in such topics as administration, marketing, MBAs, law school, and facility management.
