Description

The Major in International Finance in the Department of International Business Administration is concerned with the application of economics within financial and non-financial institutions and markets.

As such, finance is about the optimal allocation of scarce financial assets (i.e., money, loans, bonds, stocks, and currencies). Problems in finance deal with time, information, uncertainty, diversification, hedging and asset management, and focus on empirical predictions.

The mission of the International Finance Major is to prepare students to understand the economic and financial environment, and enable them to evaluate alternative investment opportunities, finance those opportunities and manage optimal portfolios.

Departmental Honors

Students majoring in either International Business Administration, Entrepreneurship or International Finance may, on the basis of their superior academic performance, be invited during their junior or senior years to participate in the IBA Departmental Honors Program. This program affords outstanding students the opportunity to deepen and broaden their understanding of the business world and to accelerate their search for academic and professional excellence. Beyond academic results, students will be required to write and present a thesis in their senior year. Additional information is available from the IBA Department chair and the IBA Honors Program faculty supervisor.
