CIM qualifications are highly sought after by employers, and MAP alongside our own Marketing degrees, to ensure we are equipping our students with the best opportunities for a successful marketing career.

CIM modules are included throughout the course, and the qualifications you graduate with will depend on the modules you choose to study. You will also need to achieve at least a 2.2 overall to be awarded the CIM qualifications.

Course Content

This is a three or four-year course depending on whether you take a work placement year.

What will I study?

Year One

  • Fundamentals of Marketing

  • The Marketing Environment

  • Business Information Systems and Quantitative Methods for Marketing

  • Accounting and Finance for Managers

  • Foundations of Managing and Organising

  • Entrepreneurship and Professional Development

Year Two

First six months

All students will study core modules.

  • Research for Marketing

  • Delivering Customer Value

  • Integrated Marketing Communications

Second six months

Full-time students choose one from:

  • Study abroad

  • Enterprise project

  • Community project

  • Internship

  • Taught modules (see below)

Placement students and full-time students that have selected taught modules above will study:

  • Managing in Marketing

  • Buyer Behaviour

Plus one optional module from:

  • Digital Essentials

  • Exploring Strategy and Innovation

Year Three

Placement year for those taking this option. Students can also choose to study abroad with a partner institution during the year, or combine the two.

How will I learn?

The course incorporates a wide range of teaching methods including lectures, seminars, workshops, group projects, presentations, student-lead meetings, tutorials, one-to-one tutor support and independent study.

Project based learning forms an important element of your learning on this course and the group activities will develop your ability to work in a team and enhance your employability.

You will benefit from the latest industry tools and technologies, and will have access to the wide array of resources available at Nottingham Business School.

Contact time

92% of students studying for a marketing degree agreed that they received sufficient advice and support with their studies (National Student Survey 2013).

On average you will receive 12 - 15 hours of teaching per week from a combination of lectures and seminars. You'll then be expected to increase your understanding of the subject area through independent study for each module.

Additional to this, you will also have further time-tabled contact time for your induction at the beginning of the year, and sessions on employability and opportunities that you can get involved with while at University.

Personal tutor sessions

You will also have a number of one-on-one tutor sessions during each year, which will allow you to:

  • Discuss and gain feedback about your work.

  • Ask questions about the projects you're working on.

  • Raise any difficulties you are experiencing relating to your work, personal circumstances or your University experience.

Where will I study?

All students will attend lectures and seminars at NTU's City site, in the impressive Newton building, home to Nottingham Business School.

Virtual learning environment

You will use our virtual learning environment, NOW, which is a flexible web-based system that gives you 24-hour access to module learning materials and reading lists. It allows you to discuss work with tutors and submit coursework electronically from anywhere in the world.

Developed by professional marketers, employers and academics, this course benefits from associations with professional bodies such as the Chartered Institute of Marketing to ensure your skills are in line with the demands of the industry.

Our tutors have industry experience in their specialist field, which means you will gain practical insight into these fields and how companies are run.

How will I be assessed?

As well as attending lectures, seminars and workshops, you will also carry out hands-on computing, personal research and essay / report writing, case studies, group work, individual projects, role play, case studies and presentations.

You will typically be assessed through a combination of coursework, projects and examinations. The course has been designed to help you develop a range of practical skills. Formative assessments will be provided by your tutors for many practical elements of the course.

All CIM modules will be double assessed by both NTU and CIM, which ensures that your degree award is always protected.

In response to student feedback the University has introduced a policy that ensures you are given feedback on assessment within three weeks of submission.

English Language Requirements

IELTS band : 6.5 CAE score : 75(Grade B)

To study at this university, you have to speak English. We advice you to

take an IELTS test.

Requirements

You will need:

  • 300 UCAS tariff points achieved from three A-levels or from two A-levels and two AS-levels (excluding General Studies) or equivalent qualifications.
  • GCSE Maths and English Language at grade C or above.
