Description

The program, which leads to a bachelor of science degree, includes a yearlong, full-time clinical internship that qualifies the student to take national certification exams. Application to the program is made during the fall semester of the junior year. Medical technology students will develop academic skills through the core curriculum and elective courses, enabling them to smoothly transition from an academic environment to professional training in the clinical internship. The academic emphasis will be on a skill set required for future success in the field of medical technology, including preparation for the national certification exams, in conjunction with a broad liberal arts foundation. Medical technology students will also be encouraged to continue their academic studies at a higher level, if so desired.

Course Content

A major in medical technology consists of a total of 84 to 88 credits, distributed as follows:
1. English composition
2. Biological sciences:
  • General Biology
  • Genetics
  • General Microbiology
  • Immunology
  • Systems Physiology
3. Mathematics
4. Chemistry:
  • General Chemistry and Analytical Chemistry
  • plus either Sequence 1: Organic Chemistry with lab or
  • Sequence 2: Elementary Organic Chemistry with lab and Introduction to Biochemistry
5. Clinical Practicum in Medical Technology
