Description

Computer Aided Mechanical Engineering allows engineers to design and test new products or systems without having to build prototypes. Essentially a form of virtual engineering, the engineer can design and analyse a product or system using the computer to accurately simulate real situations and stresses that may be placed upon it. This allows the engineer to identify and rectify any problems that the product may develop, saving the huge development costs of actually manufacturing and testing the product or system, only to discover a fault. This degree provides an excellent broad-based Mechanical Engineering education combined with the application of Computer Aided Design (CAD) and Computer Aided Manufacture (CAM). Utilising industry standard software such as 'ACAD', 'Pro Engineer' and 'Ansys' you will gain an understanding of the fundamental principles of engineering - design, control, materials and manufacturing methods. With this understanding and through the application of the computer techniques, you will learn to provide solutions to complex engineering problems as well as for engineering systems and processes. This programme is particularly suitable for numerate and communicative individuals interested in the design and manufacture of components and systems. Various industry prizes are awarded annually for academic achievement. Project work is team activity based and related to real problems, giving you insight into the workings of industry. You will benefit from studying in a state-of-the-art learning environment, using extensive IT and specialist engineering laboratories. In addition, staff operate an 'open door' policy within the School.
