Description

French Studies at Birmingham will give you the opportunity to study many different aspects of French language and culture. We put an emphasis on small group teaching and encourage student participation. The expertise of our staff enables us to offer a wide range of courses covering all areas of French language, culture, history, literature and film. Course Content

First and second years

In the first two years you will build upon your existing knowledge of the French language, and develop the skills you need to communicate fluently in spoken and written French. You will also be able to study modules that focus on the literature, politics, media, culture and history of France. You can take one course from outside the French Department, with choices ranging from History of Art to Beginner's Japanese.

The third year is spent in France, either following a programme of study at one of our many partner universities, or completing a work placement in a French school or business.

Fourth year

A wide range of specialist language and culture options is available in the final year, enabling you to pursue your particular interests. Current choices include:
