Description

The Department of Sociology, Anthropology, and Criminal Justice offers two majors, one in criminal justice and one in sociology. The department also offers minors in all three subjects. Each of these programs is designed to draw on the combined strengths of sociology, anthropology, and criminology in fostering a broad awareness of the nature and functioning of human societies and of the ways in which such knowledge can be put to use.

The criminal justice program prepares students for careers in a broad array of justice-related settings, and complements its specifically criminal justice courses with relevant sociological and anthropological course offerings as well. A dual degree B.A./M.A. in criminal justice is also available.

The dual degree BA/MA program allows acceptable Rutgers undergraduate students to save time and money, and earn a significant competitive advantage by graduating with an advanced Rutgers degree. As a dual degree BA/MA graduate student, you have the option of enrolling in up to three graduate courses, generally one course per semester, beginning in your junior year. These courses count towards both undergraduate degree requirements and graduate degree requirements. This allows you to work on your graduate degree while satisfying your undergraduate requirements

  • Gift aid does not require repayment and is divided into three categories: grants (which recognize financial need) and scholarships and awards (which recognize academic merit, special talents, or other achievements).

  • Work-study allows students to earn money for college expenses while gaining valuable skills - often in their intended field.

  • Rutgers is a member—so are Harvard, Yale, and Berkeley—of the prestigious Association of American Universities, the 61 leading research universities in North America.
  • More than 175 Rutgers research centers support pioneering work in stem cells, climate change, DNA analysis, and more.
