Description

WSU's online humanities degree is a broad-based, interdisciplinary degree that allows you to select courses from diverse disciplines and learn about cultural concepts through literature, art, music, theater, philosophy, history, languages, and linguistics.

Concentrations are available in the following subjects:

  • Women's Studies

WSU's humanities degree develops skills in communication, writing, problem-solving, and critical thinking. Graduates find employment in such careers as social services, business, and education. The degree also opens the door to many graduate and professional programs.

Course Content

All undergraduates must complete the WSU General Education Requirements (GER), or the University Common Requirements (UCORE), depending on their status. (These can generally be satisfied with a direct transfer degree. For a list of direct-transfer agreements, visit WSU's Transfer Information Web page.)
Students must also fulfill the College of Arts and Sciences graduation requirements and the program requirements of the degree.
Humanities students have two options; their program of study can include two (PLAN A) or three (PLAN B) different concentrations.
PLAN A:
(two concentrations)
Primary Concentration:
(24 semester credits in one Humanities discipline)
At least 15 credits must be upper division (300-400 level).
Plan A primary concentration areas:

  • English
  • History
  • Women's Studies

Secondary Concentration:
(15 semester credits in any discipline)
All 15 credits must be concentrated within one Humanities discipline and at least six of these credits must be upper-division (300-400 level).
PLAN B:
(three areas of concentration)
A minimum of 27 semester credits for all concentrations and electives must be upper division (300-400 level).

Requirements

  • To be eligible for admission to Washington State University, an applicant must be a high school graduate or its equivalent, or have completed a more advanced transferable credential from a regionally accredited college or university (e.g., a transferable Associate of Arts or Associate of Science degree).
  • The total number of new students admitted for any one semester will be based on the number of students for whom facilities can be made available.
  • Appeal of admission decisions may be made only to the Admissions Subcommittee of the Academic Affairs Committee or its designee.
  • Anyone seeking admittance to the Graduate School must follow procedures in the Graduate School Policies and Procedures Manual available in the Graduate School.
  • The university reserves a limited number of spaces in the incoming class for the admission of students with exceptional talent. Refer to the admission of students with extraordinary talents component of the Admissions policies section of the university catalog.
