MA «Studies in European Societies» is a product of an old-established cooperation between
St. Petersburg State University and Bielefeld University – one of the leading German
universities that has a great reputation in sociology and other social sciences. Program
focuses on interrelations and transformations of European societies that allows the graduates
to become successfully employed in international organizations and enterprises or make an
international scientific career.
Highly qualified academic teaching staff that includes Russian and foreign lecturers
representing the leading universities and research centers of Germany and other European
countries, problem-oriented approach to education and the development of critical thinking.

Students participate in winter and summer schools organized by sociological institutions
in Germany and other European countries, undertake internships in big European research
centers and international organizations and participate in student exchange programs.

an educational program
2. Copy of an identity document with
the indication of nationality
3. Original educational credentials
(BA diploma or academic record)
or a copy thereof
4. Photographs 3 x 4 (4 pieces), made
during the calendar year
5. Portfolio of documents including the
motivation letter, an essay on one of
proposed topics, and optional documents
approving foreign language abilities,
research and publication experience
Foreign applicants on government-funded basis should
also submit a copy of the medical certificate on absence of
contraindication against studying and a copy of the medical
certificate on the absence of the H IV virus and AIDS
