A UBC Bachelor of Commerce (BCom) will give you the broad range of business basics and the management skills you need to thrive in any career. With our diverse array of course offerings, you’ll have a chance to develop your critical thinking, creative problem solving, communication, organization and leadership.

In each year of study of our general program you will take a combination of core courses and electives to build competencies in each area of business.

  •  Year 1 – Building a foundation
  •  Year 2 – Learning the fundamentals of business
  •  Year 3 – Specializing and building business knowledge
  •  Year 4 – Integrating knowledge & launching a career

Specialized BCom degree programs

In addition to our general program, we offer two unique niche program options:

The Bachelor of Commerce, Combined Major in Business and Computer Science is an ideal launch pad if you're interested in computer science and want to pursue a career in business and information technology. To apply, select the Combined Major in Business and Computer Science program on your application to UBC.

The Dual Commerce and Arts Degree Program with Sciences Po allows you to earn two degrees, a Bachelor of Commerce (BCom) from UBC and a Bachelor of Arts (BA) from Sciences Po, in just four years. To apply, complete the Dual Degree program supplemental application formafter completing the UBC online application.

You must complete/provide:

  • An interim transcript of your grades.
  • Additional documentation: proof of English Language proficiency, and more may be required depending on where you’ve completed secondary school.

Average required

Although we do not admit students solely on the basis of grades, academic performance is extremely important. Only applicants with an interim average of 84% or higher are eligible to be considered for admission. Please note that the course grades used in the calculation of your average will depend on where you are currently attending secondary school and the grading scale used by your school. All grades are converted into percentage grades based on a 50% pass scale. Detailed information on secondary school course requirements and equivalents for all applicants as well as information on how your admission average will be calculated can be found atyou.ubc.ca/Admissions.

Math requirement for admission to Year 1

To be admissible to Year 1 of the BCom program, you must have completed or be in the process of completing Senior Level Math. If you are completing a BC high school curriculum, the required math is Principles of Mathematics 12 or Pre-Calculus 12. Detailed information can be found at you.ubc.ca/Admissions. While not a factor in the admissions decision, many students find that taking a secondary school calculus course helps them succeed in our first year Math course; it is strongly recommended.

A wide range of scholarships, awards, prizes and bursaries are available to BCom students. You may be eligible based on your academic achievement and in many cases, a combination of financial need and/or achievement in other areas such as leadership and community service.
