The course has been designed so it not only allows you to focus on your own leadership and management practice, but also to have a positive and direct impact on service outcomes. All assessment demands the application of theory to organisational situations, so not only will you be able to gauge the development of your own skills and knowledge, your organisation will also be aware of your increasing effectiveness. A theme throughout all the units is developing yourself as a leader and manager and contributing to the development of others so the course also provides a foundation for enhancing your career in the future and assisting others in their career planning.

Would you benefit from developing your managerial skills?

The course is primarily aimed at managers already in post, although experienced professionals who aspire to a management career may also access the course providing you have supervisory responsibilities that will enable you to complete the practice assessments.

The course supports the Department of Healths Leadership Qualities Framework and Inspiring Leaders Leadership for Quality. It is designed to support the Skills for Care and the Department of Educations National Leadership and Management Strategy and the Social Work Reform Boards Professional Capabilities Framework.

How will I study?

The course is taught in monthly two-day block to suit the needs of busy professionals. Learning methods include interactive workshops together with more traditional learning materials supported by web-based resources. You will be responsible for managing individualised work-based projects that will not only develop your professional practice but impact on service quality. The course emphasises self-directed study and you are required to take responsibility for your own professional development. Units and their assessment will allow flexibility so that learning can be shaped to meet your needs.
