The MSc Health Information for Clinical Management has been developed in response to the growing importance on the efficient use of health information and the associated technology to shape service operations and service improvement initiatives.

This unique programme was based on a co-funding award from the National Health Service in London to support the continuing professional and personal development within the NHS workforce.

A series of workshops, interviews and master classes involving healthcare managers and clinical professionals were organised to identify the existing skills as well as gaps in health information management and technology which professional staff would benefit from.

Year 1 PG Certificate in Health Information for Clinical Management

Information Governance for Health and Social Care (15 credits)

This module will provide you with a comprehensive, innovative, practitioner-based approach to understanding the issues around Information Governance in the health and care system. There will be a particular emphasis on the personal health information data quality and standards, to support the provision of high quality health and care.

Using Information Management in Health and Social Care (15 credits)

You will develop a coherent, rich, and powerful understanding of how the appropriate information literacy and clinical competence framework facilitate and affect patient safety, quality, efficiency and patient care, productivity and reporting outcomes.

Health and Social Care Process Modelling (15 credits)

You will gain a comprehensive understanding of the fundamentals of health and care workflow process analysis and modelling, as an essential component of effective health and care practice.

Approaches to Research (15 credits)

You will develop your knowledge and critical awareness of a variety of research methods, enhance your skills of designing research studies as well as develop your knowledge of appropriate methods of data analysis.

Year 2 PG Diploma in Health Information for Clinical Management

Organisational Behaviours and Cultures (15 credits)

This module aims to develop your awareness of how the understanding of how human behaviour within a health and care system organisation via the disciplinary principles of behaviour analysis profoundly deepens the managements role in shaping organisational culture and improving organisational performance.

Understanding Emerging Technologies in Health and Social Care (15 credits)

This module aims to equip you with a range of skills, knowledge and confidence to embrace the opportunities that contemporary information and communication technologies can offer in addition to Web 2.0 technologies in addressing the needs of multiple stakeholders within health care provision.

Personal and Professional Development (15 credits)

You will build on your awareness of professionalism, standards of conduct and ethics. Plus an understanding of how these standards are maintained across specialist and non-traditional areas the evolving health, education and social services.

Evidence Based Decision Making in Health and Social Care (15 credits)

You will further develop existing professional skills and embed confidence in critically accessing, appraising, synthesising and using research findings to explore the current and recent developments in health policy and information strategy as they impact on implementing change in health and care system strategic plans.

Year 3 Masters in Health Information for Clinical Management

The Dissertation (60 credits)

A dissertation is required to obtain the MSc Health Information for Clinical Management.

You may wish to study a topic relevant to your work practice or a topic that provides a substantial knowledge of your area of interest or future job opportunities.

You will have an opportunity to discuss the dissertation topic in consultation with a supervisor.
