The MSc in Economics is designed for students who have a general interest in economics. Do you have a good Bachelor's degree in economics or any related field? Do you want to deepen your understanding of economics without necessarily focusing on either international economics or finance? Then this is the programme for you.

A broad range of field courses and electives gives you all the necessary flexibility to develop your individual academic profile. The courses available include International Economics, Game Theory and Industrial Organisation, Innovation and Growth, Monetary Macroeconomics, Economic History, Microeconometrics, Theory and Empirical Analysis of Financial Markets and Financial Institutions. Graduates of this programme will have acquired advanced, up-to-date knowledge in several areas of economics and will be able to apply their knowledge in attractive professional careers, both in government institutions and in the private sector.

Educational organisation

We place great emphasis on active student involvement. Attending a Master's seminar, you will earn credits by writing a research paper on a topical issue of economics, econometrics or finance, and by presenting your paper in class. Most importantly, you will write a Master's thesis on a topic agreed upon between yourself and your thesis supervisor. Working on your thesis under the dedicated supervision of a faculty member will allow you, with due effort, to move up to the frontier of academic research. In doing so, you will acquire methodological skills and expertise that greatly enhance your career perspectives, including a possible continuation of your education in an excellent PhD programme.

This programme can be completed as a double degree with the University of Adelaide. This brand-new double degree programme is based on the MSc Economics at the University of Tübingen and the Honours programme in Economics at the University of Adelaide. Students participating in this double degree programme spend one year at each institution and graduate with both degrees.

Students of the MSc Economics from the University of Adelaide taking part in the double degree programme with the University of Tübingen will spend two semesters at the University of Adelaide. They will complete their honours degree there.

After having completed their honours degree in Economics at the University of Adelaide, students will undertake two semesters of study at the University of Tübingen. The courses students have taken at the University of Adelaide will count toward their MSc in Economics at the University of Tübingen, each earning the students 9 ECTS credits toward their MSc degree at the University of Tübingen.

Students will need to take one course out of specialisation or elective studies and one Master Seminar in their first semester at the University of Tübingen. An additional course may be taken. However, it will not be counted into the final degree.

In the second semester at the University of Tübingen, students will research and write their Master's theses. Upon the successful completion of all courses and the Master's thesis, the student has concluded the double degree programme and will be awarded the MSc in Economics at the University of Tübingen.
