The Master's degree programme in Engineering Sciences is devised as an application-focused course. Its aim is to provide its students with advanced and specialist knowledge in engineering and related areas on a scientific foundation.

Students have the opportunity to specialise in a particular area by choosing one of the following specialist fields in accordance with their particular interests and career aspirations:
  • Automation technology
  • Communications technology
  • Mechatronics
  • Mechanical engineering
  • Plastics engineering

In addition to providing advanced training in engineering, the course is intended to promote general skills such as teamwork, intercultural communication, and English language skills. This is aided by the Master's project, which is conducted as group project in a situation that is as realistic as possible, in which students are trained in methodological skills to organise and complete complex tasks as well work together in a group.

Educational organisation

The course contents over the three semesters are typically independent of each other, so that there is no fixed sequence order. It should be noted, however, that courses are given once per year only. It is recommended that the Master's project is carried out during the second semester. The Master's thesis is to be started in the third semester.
About 60%-70% of all courses contain lectures combined with exercises or practical lab class exercises. Part-time studies are possible on request for candidates who are working in parallel. The programme duration then is six semesters instead of three.

Forms of assessment

  • Written examinations with a duration of 60 or 90 minutes (typically)
  • Project work with final presentation

The Master's programme is intended to prepare graduates for highly qualified jobs in
engineering and, in addition, for positions with project responsibility and technical management functions, especially within internationally active companies.
