Master in Management

Management and engineering are increasingly interwoven. Companies no longer think in terms of traditional divisions. Instead, they are looking for individuals with a passion for management combined with outstanding technical skills.
Our Master's programme in Management positions you at precisely this interface. We designed the programme in Management for people with a first degree in engineering or natural sciences who have a strong interest in management. Based on your background in engineering or natural sciences gained during your first degree, the programme develops your skills in management, law, economics, and business. Later, you have the opportunity to individually specialise in your desired area of management.
Our teaching draws on the latest research and state-of-the-art industrial practice. As well as lectures, we run regular tutorials and small-group seminars. You also have the option of spending a semester studying abroad.

Educational organisation

In their first two semesters, students will acquire basic knowledge in management (36 ECTS), economics (6 ECTS), and law (6 ECTS). Moreover, they will gain insights into the areas of entrepreneurship (6 ECTS) and international management and also gain practical international experience (6 ECTS). In their third semester, students will have the opportunity to deepen their knowledge or specialise in their desired areas of management by choosing electives, to do project studies or even to study abroad (30 ECTS). The programme will be completed by a written Master's thesis in the fourth semester (30 ECTS).

Study abroad unit(s)

Short-term international experience is mandatory (minimum 60 days), and students have the possibility to take part in the exchange programme with one of over 90 worldwide partners of TUM School of Management.

Internships are optional. While we cannot directly arrange an internship for you, we provide a wide range of support services during and even before the application process.

RECOGNISED LANGUAGE CERTIFICATES (one of the following options)

1) TEST OF ENGLISH AS A FOREIGN LANGUAGE (TOEFL):
Minimum Requirements:

• Internet-based test: 88
• Paper-based test: 605

Please note: TOEFL ITP is not accepted.

2) INTERNATIONAL ENGLISH LANGUAGE TESTING SYSTEM (IELTS):
Only a minimum score of 6.5 and the Academic Module will be accepted.

3) CAMBRIDGE MAIN SUITE OF ENGLISH EXAMINATIONS:

• CAE (Cambridge Advanced English), Level A,B,C
• CPE (Cambridge Proficiency English), Level A,B,C

4) Alternative proof of language proficiency:
In some cases, an alternative form of proof of language proficiency may be submitted in place of a language certificate. Please refer to the Academic and Examination Regulations (FPSO) of your degree programme for specific details.

5) PROOF OF GERMAN UNIVERSITY ENTRANCE QUALIFICATIONS:
School leaving certificate in Germany (Abitur or vocational school diploma):

• good grade in English (minimum of 10 points on average)

6) LANGUAGE OF INSTRUCTION IS/WAS ENGLISH:

• Evidence in the form of certificates or citizenship is required. (Please note: a semesters spent in an exchange programme or internship are not sufficient)

Academic requirements

1) To qualify for the Master in Management, applicants must hold a Bachelor's degree (requiring at least six semesters of study) or equivalent in engineering (mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, civil engineering and surveying, architecture, or equivalent), or natural sciences (natural sciences, computer science, mathematics, nutritional science, sports science, or equivalent).
2) Additionally, applicants must submit evidence of proficiency in English during the application period. Language skills in German are not mandatory for admission, but basic language skills are to be acquired during the course of study.
3) Successful completion of the assessment procedure

Enrolment fees

Approx. 115 EUR per semester
The fee includes a semester ticket covering public transport in Munich.

Costs of living

In order to cover personal expenses while studying in Munich, we recommend that students budget at least 800 EUR per month for accommodation, living, health insurance, books and miscellaneous expenses.

Arrival support

TUM's International Center offers a special programme tailored for international students, TUMinternational (TUMi). The TUMi programme provides help and advice for new students as well as a cultural programme with events scheduled both prior to and during the academic periods.
The service desk of the Student Service Center is the first contact point for international students. We are here to help you with issues such as applications, enrolment, student ID cards, etc. Furthermore, we offer various three- to six-week summer schools combining academics with a rich menu of educational and social activities as a foretaste of university life. For international students who have been admitted to a degree programme, the Student Service Center offers a four-week pre-study course designed to help you get started at the TUM.
