Areas of emphasis include analytical, bio-, inorganic, organic, and physical chemistry. Students are also able to participate in interdisciplinary studies through the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Center for Materials and Nanoscience, the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Center for Biotechnology, the University of Nebraska Center for Environmental Toxicology, and the University of Nebraska Cancer Center. The latter two programs run jointly between the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and the University of Nebraska Medical Center.

  1. All graduate students must publish their research work in peer-reviewed journals.
  2. It is expected that 1 peer-reviewed journal article, preferably as first author, will be published or submitted for publication prior to the thesis defense.
  3. Student should aim for archival and flagship journals from ACS, BMES, AVS, AIChE etc.
  4. Please avoid publishing in online access journals that do not have a published impact factor or those not having a stringent peer-review procedure. Please do not aim to publish in journals that have an impact factor less than 2.0.

One national presentation either oral or poster is also required.

Admission based on uploaded transcripts is provisional and contingent upon receipt of official transcripts within a specified timeframe. We do not accept transcripts by email or fax.
  • If your native language is not English: verification of English proficiency is required
  • Entrance Exam: GRE
    All applicants for admission must take the verbal, quantitative and analytical sections of the Graduate Record Exam (GRE)and should arrange to have their scores reported to the Graduates Studies Office at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln at the earliest possible date since action on admitting the applicant will not be taken until these scores are received. UNL's institution code is 6877. You do not need to enter a departmental code as all scores are processed centrally. Scores must be less than 2 years old. 
  • English Proficiency: TOEFL
    All international applicants must complete the TOEFL with the following minimum scores: Paper-550, Computer-213, Internet-80. Note that the Chemical & Biomolecular minimum scores are higher than the published University minimum scores.
  • Departmental Application: GAMES
    Complete of the Department of Chemical & Biomolecular Engineering GAMES Application at https://games.unl.edu/GAMES/login.jsp. Graduate Studies will provide you with login information via email after you have completed the UNL Graduate Programs application online. (Please note that there is a delay between the submission of your application and the receipt of your GAMES login email.)
