Cognitive Science is the interdisciplinary study of minds, brains and behaviour. Many disciplines contribute to this overarching goal, including, but not restricted to, Psychology, Philosophy, Artificial Intelligence, Robotics, Neuroscience, Linguistics, and Anthropology.

We offer a one year (12 months) taught masters degree, in which students take 9 months of courses and complete a substantial research project. The links below will provide information on the course content and how to apply. Note that course offerings vary from year to year, though the overall course framework is held constant.

We also offer this degree on a part-time basis. A study plan will be arranged on an individual basis to suit the needs of the student.

The following is a list of core modules within the cognitive science programme. Course offerings may vary somewhat from year to year, and not all courses listed here may be on offer in any given year. Additional modules may be made available as resources permit. Each of these courses is equivalent to 7.5 credits under the European Credit Transfer System.

Students enrolled in the taught masters programme will take a total of 8 modules. Usually, each student will take all of the 7 core modules and either General Linguistics or Biostatistics. In some cases, further substitution may be warranted based on the students past experience. All course choices will be agreed between the student and the course directors.

Research students also take 8 taught modules (60 credits) selected from the core cognitive science offering, and may include some modules in generic and transferrable research skills (max. 15 credits).

Core Modules

* Philosophy of Mind
* Cognitive Psychology
* Behavioral Neuroscience
* Connectionism and Dynamical Systems
* Cognitive Modelling
* Advances in Neuroscience
* Topics in Cognitive Science: Post-cognitive approaches

Additional Modules

* Biostatistics
* Linguistics

In order to qualify for admission to the degree, a student must have a good honours undergraduate degree in one of computer science, psychology, philosophy, linguistics, neuroscience, or a cognate discipline. Typically a minimum final grade of II.1 or equivalent is expected. English Language Requirements IELTS band: 6.5 TOEFL paper-based test score : 600
